Small Joys

in Rant, Complain, Talkyesterday

Some days are good days not because they are spectacular, but because they are full of good moment to moment experiences.

Sitting here knitting and listening to Friday afternoon Melbourne alt radio and waiting for Jamie to come home I'm smiling to myself about how lovely a day can be.

Like warm snuggles with Jamie in bed after a good night's sleep and this morning's sunrise being so lovely over our little house when I took out the recycling.

Like when I popped in on Mum and there was a break in the rain and we had a quick walk round the block and a cup of tea and a cry and a laugh about Dad.

And my best mate said via WhatsApp she's gonna buy a bigger boat and sail to live in Timor and I thought it better be a bigger boat coz we will fly over and live with you on it for a month or two.

Avacados were only $1.50 in the supermarket today so I bought six, and magnesium bath salts were less than half price. I ran into a very old mate in there and it was so nice to see him and receive a lovely big hug.

It was too fucking cold to swim in my bathers so I put my wetsuit on and half floated and half swam for twenty minutes whilst in rained between spells of sunshine and rain and there was a huge rainbow.

And the local food charity were giving away six packs of 500 g vanilla coconut yoghurt and I gave half to the neighbours as well as some silver beet and coriander and they were chuffed.

And I got all the washing hung out - three loads and tidied the house and tonight for dinner is fish and black rice and avocado salad.

I got all the shopping in from the car and put it away and lit the fire. Twenty minutes before Jamie gets home. Huzzah.

Life doesn't have to be exciting all the time. Sometimes the most mundane things in the world can be just amazing. Our expectations of life can be crazy high, setting us up for disappointment, when we can choose to be content with the smallest joys.

May your week be joyful.

With Love,

I'm getting on a bit now, but since I was young, I've enjoyed spending time on my own to recharge my batteries and stop and smell the roses. I've always been that odd one out who doesn't like parties. I think the world is finally catching up with my way of thinking.

I sadly didn't go to my son's gig because I can't stay up late and hate crowds. Kinda wish I wasn't such a loner.

You are what you are. 🙃

Sometimes that's all you need in a day, nothing spectacular but just enough to run the day. The older I get, the more I want simpler evenings and less chaotic days.

Definitely. For me, this is happiness.

Sounds like the most lovely of days. It's wonderful when everything is just nice and pleasant and a few small surprises...

It's all one can hope for 💖

Great price on those avocados! I'm spoiled around here as a neighbor has a tree in their yard that overhangs my fence. So I get them for free most of the time while in season!

That sounds like it was a cold dip, good thing you had on the wetsuit. The ocean here is kind of chilly too, and most surfers wear the wet suits as well. I miss the Caribbean bathwater temperatures of the ocean! lol

I'm glad knitting is a relaxing hobby for you. I've never tried it, not being a manly activity I suppose. Oh well..

Have a great weekend!
