First Time In My Hive Life

in Market Friday3 years ago

One of the hottest days of probably the hottest July I've ever experienced. About the future, I have no way of knowing but from the information we have now, there will probably be more records to break.

My son very much wanted to take his daughter, Ilinca, to a waterpark, both to cool off(?) and to prepare her for the upcoming seaside holidays next month. I went with them too, like a loving grandfather eager to help.

That's how we arrived at a rather large waterpark near the main airport in Bucharest, Otopeni airport. My son works at this airport and has been to this waterpark many times. Me, for the first time. Maybe also because I don't like too much this kind of place.

The novelty I mentioned in the title refers to the fact that, for the first time in my six years on this platform, I started to write, with the help of my mobile phone, a post, right from the place where the reported event takes place.

It's Friday, #MarketFriday, and @dswigle, I mean Denise, and I'm trying not to miss publishing my post.

The airport is close by and that is what makes this waterpark unique. Planes pass very close, low, low because they are a few tens of seconds from landing.

This opportunity to see the planes from so close made this day by the pools enjoyable for me, but even less enjoyable for my son who felt like he was at work.

I saw many army planes having, of course, a connection with the war in Ukraine.

Granddaughter Ilinca is overjoyed. I don't think there's a child who isn't drawn to water. Ilinca shares different feelings. The pleasure of playing in the water and the fear of deeper water. Plus all sorts of opposition. Not accepting sunscreen until after countless pleas. Gentle and long prayers, not like when I was a kid when prayers were quite painful.

It was (I mean it still is) a long day. I'm not used to sitting, I mean just sitting. The time that I usually perceive as passing very quickly is now barely moving, the heat is overwhelming, but at least I'm not hungry. Because I ate here. We went to eat more to spur Ilinca to eat. We ended up eating more ourselves...

For now, I don't know how this day dedicated to water and sun will end but being a post in the #MarketFriday community I am obliged to say how much the fun cost.

Waterpark admission for two was $30, Ilinca was on the verge of paying half the ticket but got in for free.

Inside we only paid for what we ate and drank: soda water $2; three glasses of beer $8; popcorn $2; fruit soft drink $2; ice cream $2, two servings of schnitzel with fries $15; watermelon $2, car parking $4.

Total $67, if I'm not forgetting something.

The ending is with a flower, #alwaysaflower...

And just like that, another Friday is about to die!

I'm with you on this one! I am not a huge fan of waterparks, but, kids love them usually. Kids are smart, even if they don't know why they want certain things their way. Not wanting sunscreen and having to go back and forth with a child can be cute except when the game goes too long. Children can feel when something feels out of place to them, not in their once normal routine. Growing up, my prayers were a little more painful than hers. :) That made me laugh, Dan. Hehe... My kids didn't have all the soft and pleading prayers either. I didn't feel the need to bargain with my children. Was I wrong? Was I right? I guess it is every man for himself when we figure it out.

Still, it was a nice kind of day for you and your son to go and try something different. :) Have you noticed that fast food is starting to taste all the same when you eat it out? Pork tastes like chicken? They fry it or grill it and put in on a bun, or maybe not. Voila! There is lunch. Now, all you have to do is remember what it is supposed to be.

Your admission is what I thought was expensive, but, then I remember that you are in the capital of the country, so prices are driven higher, given that fact. I am a little appalled at how expensive it is to go out and have an enjoyable day.

Kids are funny sometimes. What they love to do sometimes scares them, but, I think it is the not knowing that really scares them. They are just fragile little angels. Thank you so much for sharing your day with us!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

Kids are smart

Oh, yes! I can see and feel it too. You didn't like to bargain with your kids. Of course, neither did I, and my boy picked up on that very quickly and behaved accordingly. Now all parents argue with their children, I see it in kindergarten, in the park, at the waterpark, or in the mall. Ilinca's parents, especially her mother, ask her all the time what she wants..., the result is unpleasant and I appeal to my optimistic side to hope that in the near future, Ilinca will be as pleasant as she was last year!

They are just fragile little angels.

Oh, yes! You're right again. Ilinca is acting weird because she is starting to understand that her parents no longer live together and she has a way of punishing us all for it. I think so.

Thank you, Denise. As always, your comment is also a way of helping, a way of deciphering our countless inadequacies.

Waterparks. I don't really like them either, and usually, I don't go to these places, but yesterday we went to one spa in Hungary and it also had an outdoor part with many pools. It was good to spend one day there with the family, but I still prefer the river or the sea ;)

It's like you said, you're in the neighborhood!
I'm glad you're taking such a long trip, there's probably another purpose than just the pleasure of traveling in the less endowed east of Europe.
I, like you, found that it wasn't as unpleasant as I expected at the waterpark, things have changed in Romania even without me noticing, so it seems worth visiting places I've been avoiding.
And I prefer the sea more than anything. I think you know you're lucky to have the sea close by.
Thank you so much for looking at my post and I wish you a pleasant journey ahead!

Yes, I am visiting my family here ;)
We can try sometimes different things, we never know if we would end up liking something that we thought that is not our cup of tea. :)

Or our cup of coffee, you're right. I have seen many times that I have had preconceived opinions about different things or people and I have been wrong.
It's nice to visit family, especially when it's so far away.
Have a pleasant vacation!

It sounds like you had a fun day at the waterpark with your son and granddaughter! I'm glad you were able to enjoy the planes flying overhead, even if your son didn't find it as enjoyable.

I can imagine that it was a long day, but it's also clear that you made the most of it. I'm glad that Ilinca had a good time, and I'm sure she'll remember this day for years to come.

The cost of the day sounds reasonable, especially considering that Ilinca got in for free. I'm sure you all had a lot of fun, and it's worth the money to make memories like this.

That is to say, one would see planes landing at this waterpark :) Really it has been and will be so hot on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Expectations also for next week.

Best time for sea, have a good weekend!

Even for the sea, it's too hot. I gave up going in July-August a long time ago. Thank you, the same for you!

This day is the hottest as it is, but if we don't feel it, it's just like a normal day. It's so much better that you go with your family and the way we see this little girl enjoying herself. When one goes with family, time passes much better.

Amazingly beautiful place for sighseeing also very nice pictures you take. Thank you.
