Visit the ancient My Loi market in Hue

Hi dear Hivers in Market Friday community, as you may know, I am in my father's hometown to take care of my ancestors. And I had the opportunity to visit a special market which is My Loi market. My Loi is an old market in Hue. There are no documents to say exactly when this market was established, but from the stories of my grandparents, I know that the market existed before their childhood. There are so many interesting things to see at this market, I would like to lead you around this quaint market through pictures.

My Loi Market is nestled in the middle of a field and surrounded by a river, which creates its peaceful and poetic beauty. The market's old tiled roofs show that it has been there for a long time and has seen many changes to the land. When I was a kid, my grandmother took me here. And until now, when I have grown up, my grandmother has passed away, My Loi market is still the same, still not much has changed. Only houses become older with traces of time.

My Loi market opens very early from 4am to 11pm. This is the busiest shopping area of the area. It is divided into many different areas including: fish, meat, vegetables, clothing, dining, crafts, etc. I went there at 6am, and that seems to be the busiest time of the week. market place. People here go to the market very early to return home to prepare breakfast for the family and prepare for a new working day. Almost all areas of the market were packed with people.

And the area that I like the most is the dining area where we can find a lot of regional specialties. And you know what, the food here is extremely cheap and delicious. Just 20,000vnd (under 1$), you have a delicious breakfast with many different options such as beef noodle soup, pho, 2 Vietnamese sandwiches, porridge, sticky rice or super delicious traditional cakes. The eating area of the market is located under the small huts nestled in the middle of the market, where many passersby gather. When entering here, you can smell the attractive aroma of many different dishes.

Although I was born and raised in a different land, and this is my parents' hometown, when I went to the market, some people asked and recognized me. Many of them are friends of my grandparents and parents. I have been to many places in Vietnam, and when I come back here, I always have a sense of belonging. Each region in Vietnam has a different voice, and when I return here, I have the opportunity to hear the lovely and familiar Hue voices. Everyone here is really friendly and open. They smiled when they met me.

Another interesting thing that I noticed in this market is that many of the sellers in this market are elderly women. They are longtime sellers in this market. According to them, they have been selling in this market since they were young girls, wow, amazing! In the traditional costumes of Vietnamese women with conical hats, they are the priceless beauty of this market. I wish them good health to continue maintaining the beauty of this market.

People usually want to catch fresh food so they go to the market too early just in our country.. This reminded me of our market 😊.

Oh yes, that's one of the reasons why here people go to the market very early in the monrning, Jane.

Nice atmosphere in the photo's. I really like the one with the orange sunset!

The market has a similar scenario here in my place wherein vendors are selling on the sides of the streets. What a great place to see a working people with the awesome faces of the vendors. What a great photography as always my friend.

Hi my friend @pinkchic
Street vendors are popular in Vietnam. The people work very hard but they are very happy.

These types of urban markets are seen in many parts of the world and many people think they are ugly and ungienic, but I personally feel that these places are amazing and represent a lot of the culture of the place.

You're right @jotaunive
I saw historical and cultural beauty in this kind of place. There are so many things to learn about in this market.

So this is what the Hue in the Vietnam market looks like. Thank you for this virtual tour. I have learned a lot from you.

The market looks like ours here, it is properly arranged so the buyers can easily buy the needed foods. There is a convenience for everyone.

Same here too, our market is always fully packed and the busiest day is every Sunday.

I would take up an offer to have a delicious breakfast that's under $1 any day. This tour was amazing.
It's a good thing that the market hasn't changed since the last time you visited, it shows that the people there are really industrious.

And then you find a gem... wow... you're amazing!

Incredible footage and photography!

Thank you for a wonderful insight into this market. The pictures are awesome. I noticed alot of people wearing crash helmets. Do alot of people ride scooters or motorbikes?

Amazing pictures! I even got emotional seeing them! Thanks! I was living in Vietnam when the pandemic started. My house was just behind Bac My Anh Market and I used to go there almost every day to relieve the lockdown and buy food. Your pictures just transported me back to Vietnam, to its markets and the lovely people you can find in these places.

Wow! I love following you through your posts! Your human interest shots are interesting and I appreciate you telling your story with the aid of your photos. It gives them a better truth and understanding of these small, rural villages and the nature of the people who live and work there.

I cannot imagine working in the same market like that for fifty or sixty years, yet, I can honestly say that the comfort of being hugged by the warmth of those around you -your entire life. Can you think of anything better than that? There are so many pictures and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate that, giving me and others a unique opportunity to see a community that is beyond foreign to us. Far and away from the Vietnam that most people visit. There are those that do, as you know from your work, but, the tourist places are unlike these unspoiled villages.

Your heritage, your people, and where it all began for your parents and grandparents' generation. I actually brought back a conical hat for myself and I still have it, from another time in my life. Your country is so rich in history, and culture and has the understanding of family and familiarity. Thank you so much. Beautiful post.

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world. Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday
