Hello everyone! Today I am going to share some pictures I took during my visit to the hypermarket. The Mooncake Festival is around the corner and I noticed many interesting items in conjunction of that being displayed for sale and thought I should take some pictures. Some of them were the mooncake delights while the others were lanterns which are used to celebrate the festival. I thought that this will make an interesting post for this week's #marketfriday tag initiated by @dswigle.
What is the Mooncake Festival
The Mooncake Festival is the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival celebrated to thank the moon for the harvest. It falls on the 21st of September 2021. The date changes every year in the western calendar as it is according to the Chinese lunar calendar where it is the 15th day of the eighth month. It is celebrated by having a wonderful dinner with family members, displaying some lanterns, sharing the mooncakes with each other and worshiping the moon.

These are different types of lanterns displayed, from simple paper types to those of higher quality and more durable with eye-catching images.
This is how the paper lanterns look like in their packaging. They are folded neatly like this. We need to open them up so they take the lantern shape.
This is how they look after being opened. I used to buy them when I was a school going kid. I love the vibrant colours they come in and they are also affordable as they come in small sizes as well and are the cheapest lanterns. At the time the smallest were RM0.80 (0.19 USD).
These are the plain ones for the people who prefer minimal design.
These are the same type of lanterns with patterns. In order to make them glow, we need to put a candle in it or an LED light. The lanterns come with little metal buckles in the center so we can shape them to hold the candle or light. My parents never allowed me to use candles back then though as it can still be risky so I just open them up and hang them around the house.
There were other lanterns which came in more interesting designs as well. Here's a picture with larger scale for comparison.
On the left is a fish lantern. Fish is considered auspicious for prosperity. On the right is a Hello Kitty lantern.
Most of the animal lanterns were fish. However, I noticed a few others as well such as butterfly, rabbit and cat.
These are some cartoon characters and superheroes as well. I like the Doraemon one and wish they had one in blue colour too.
Presenting to you, some of the most famous superheroes, Spiderman and Superman lanterns!
I didn't know lanterns also come in cartoons until I saw these. Kids today have such a wide range of choices, from Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse to Pokemon and Elsa from Frozen.
These pink Hello Kitty lanterns seemed quite hard and durable in texture.
By the way, the management of AEON Big hung some lanterns on top to create the festive vibe.

They set up an entire section for the festival related items.
Unfortunately I don't know how these work but I think they are electronic lanterns.
Now it is time for some yummy pictures! These are the mooncakes. Those who don't have enough time to make them at home or find it a tedious task can just buy readily made cakes.
These are also mooncakes in other flavours such as walnut and double sesame mooncakes.
These are mooncakes in another brand. They come in mixed nuts and less sugar variations. The second type has red bean single yolk. In other words, it has red bean filling. i just love this packaging because they look so beautiful!
These are some traditional handmade biscuits. They are salted peanut bars and honey biscuits.

I just saw mooncakes today and then read about the festival! What a wonderful post telling all about the festival and showing off the wonderful decorations! It would be hard to choose which one is best, but, those lights were very pretty and I think would be handy. They had so many wonderful mooncakes sweets!! A wonderful post! Along with the fact of what is normal for where you live? These are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I had hoped that posting here will familiarize you with the world around you just a little bit more. Viewing it from a more personal level as opposed to the newsworthy level gives me a better understanding of the people and a view that is often not seen on television. Sometimes, it seems like I learn more on some social media about a certain incident than what the news tells me.
