Indeed, bathing a cat is not one of the easiest tasks we can perform, they are restless, sharp nails, and we must be much more careful when handling them during baths time.

Today I show you some useful tips to make that moment less traumatic and more peaceful for both you and the cat (applies also for puppies).

We will use the following tools:

A bucket or container can be small or medium size, the important thing is that the pet can get into it, without hurting himself and can be easily manipulated.
Soap or shampoo is indicated for cats.
Absorbent cotton ball or towel.
Soft combing brush
Enough water to rinse several times.

Instructions:

- Place the pet in a place with good lighting and that both are comfortable, previously fill the bucket with water at room temperature or warm and proceed to introduce the pet starting with its hind legs, with the hand or with the help of a small container we are wetting it from the bottom up, at the time of reaching the ears and head be careful that the water does not get into the ears and nose .

- Once the pet is soaked we place it out of the bucket, discard the water and proceed to fill it with clean water and set it aside. With one hand we hold the cat and with the other, we begin to soap the body or apply the shampoo, indistinctly where you want to start, I recommend the area of the head the soap of last.

- Introduce the cat again in the bucket and repeat the 1st step, until the soap or shampoo is completely removed from its body, depending on the dirtiness of the pet you can repeat the 2nd step, or if you have a hose near you place water directly on it, remember to be careful with its ears, nose and eyes;

In my case, I lather first to remove as much dirt as possible and then apply the shampoo for white coats to enhance the color and give more shine and softness to the coat. You can use shampoo for a specific coat or specific characteristics, but it must be pet-friendly.

- Proceed to remove excess water and moisture with a towel or washcloth. Let's locate an enclosed place with lighting to proceed with the dryer and brush to completely dry the pet, when you brush it do it gently as the noise is stressful enough for them.

- As an extra, you can brush their teeth, with a special small brush and enzymatic toothpaste exclusively for pets.

- You can clean their ears with cotton wool and a hemostatic tweezers to prevent water from getting inside them.

- Proceed to clean the ear very carefully without getting to the bottom to avoid touching the eardrum and mistreating it, clean between the folds and edges of the inner ear, you can use as much absorbent cotton as you need until the ear is clean.

It is advisable to perform this procedure after bathing the pet, in this way we can absorb and clean the remains of water that could enter the ear and in turn avoid otitis or any other disease that may damage their hearing.

Recommendation to have patience and time to perform these procedures, they are living beings that move and just like us feel, for this reason, we must treat them with love and care.

"Una mascota bien cuidada habla bien de su dueño..."

Es bien cierto que bañar a un gato no es una de las tareas mas fáciles que podamos realizar,son inquietos, uñas filosas, y debemos ser mucho mas cuidadosos a la hora de manipularlos durante el momento del baño.

Hoy les muestro unos utiles consejos para que ese momento sea menos traumatico y mas apacible tanto para ti como para el gato (aplica tambien para perros cachorros).

Utilizaremos los siguientes implementos:

Una cubeta o envase puede ser tamaño pequeño o mediano, lo importante es que la mascota pueda entrar en el, sin lastimarse y pueda ser manipulable con facilidad.
Jabón o shampoo indicado para el uso en gatos.
Balleta o toalla de algodon absorbente.
Cepillo suave para peinar
Agua suficiente para enjuagar varias veces.

Instrucciones:

- Colocar a la mascota en un lugar con buena iluminación y que ambos esten cómodos, previamente llenamos la cubeta de agua a temperatura ambiente o tibia y procedemos a introducir a la mascota comenzando por sus patas traseras, con la mano o con ayuda de un envase pequeño lo vamos mojando de abajo hacia arriba, al momento de llegar a las orejas y cabeza ser cuidadosos de que el agua no se introduzca en los oidos y nariz .

- Ya empapada la mascota lo colocamos fuera de la cubeta,desechamos esa agua y procedemos a llenarla con agua limpia y apartamos. Con una mano sostenemos al gato y con la otra comenzamos a enjabonar el cuerpo o aplicar el shampoo, indistintamente por donde quieras iniciar, te recomiendo el area de la cabeza la enjabones de ultimo.

- Introducir nuevamente el gato en la cubeta y repetir el 1er paso, hasta eliminar completamente de su cuerpo el jabón o shampoo, dependiendo de la suciedad de a mascota puedes repetir el 2do paso nuevamente, o si tienes una manguera cerca de ti colocar agua directamente sobre el, recuerden tener cuidado con sus oidos,nariz y ojos;

En mi caso yo enjabono primero para eliminar la mayor cantidad de suciedad posible y luego aplico el shampoo para mantos blancos para realzar el color y brindar mas brillo y suavidad al pelaje. Puedes utilizar shampoo para un manto o características especificas, pero debe ser apto para mascotas.

- Procedemos a retirar el exceso de agua y humedad con la toalla o balleta. Ubiquemos un lugar cerrado con iluminación para proceder con el secador y cepillo a secar completamente a la mascota, cuando lo cepilles hazlo de manera suave ya que el ruido es suficientemente estresante para ellos.

- Como un extra puedes cepillar su dentadura, con un cepillo pequeño especial y crema dental enzymatica exclusiva para mascotas.

- Puedes limpiar sus oidos con ayuda de algodon y una pinza hemostatica para evitar que quede agua dentro de ellos.

- Proceda a limpiar la oreja con mucho cuidado sin llegar al fondo para evitar tocar el tímpano y maltratarlo, limpie entre los pliegues y bordes del oído interno, puede utilizar el algodón que necesite hasta que la oreja esté limpia.

Es recomendable realizar este procedimiento después de bañar a la mascota, de esta manera podremos absorber y limpiar los restos de agua que pudieran entrar en el oído y a su vez evitar la otitis o cualquier otra enfermedad que pueda dañar su audición.

Recomendacion tener paciencia y tiempo para realizar estos procedimientos, son seres vivos que se mueven y al igual que nosotros sienten, por esta razón debemos tratarlos con amor y cuidado.
