Hi, dog lovers,
Last Friday was a super exciting day for us, my partner and me, as our little princess needed to get her teeth done. She had had very bad teeth for a long time, which was also known to our vet, but because of the extra risk due to her heart problems, she did not dare to undergo the operation (especially the anesthesia). The risk that she would stay in it was very great, but now it really had to be, because our poor girl was really bothered by her teeth. So much so that we took her to another vet over the weekend.
The following Monday we called our own vet to make an appointment, he couldn't actually make an appointment until June 19th, poor little one, as long as having to walk around with toothaches is no fun!! But luckily she called herself in the afternoon, someone had dropped out, so if I could agree that Gentle could come in Friday June 7th, then I could bring her immediately at 9 o'clock and they would take a blood test before the operation .
No sooner said than done, so last Friday at 9 o'clock, we were both tense, at the vet's doorstep, we stayed with her until she was under anesthesia and connected to the ventilator. We went home with tension in our bodies, because well, it could still go wrong…. Although of course we hoped for the best, but the risk was there! We had to be realistic about that. Fortunately, the assistant called pretty quickly to say that everything was going well and that they were keeping a close eye on her. Pffft, what a relief, so far so good!!
A short while later the vet called herself, teeth had to be pulled and a molar was so rotten that he really had to come out, well, what has to be done! I'd rather they go out than keep her walking around with a toothache while she was under anesthesia. She went on to say that she was doing great, so I was reassured that she was going to make it through, although it was still exciting of course. After a while the redeeming phone call came, they had taken out the teeth and the molar. And she was already recovering a bit, she received extra oxygen to support her heart and 1 of the assistants stayed close by so that she could keep a close eye on her. At half past two, we were allowed to pick her up. yesss!!!
At half past one we were at the vet's doorstep, ;-) we wanted to take our little girl home again!! We got instructions again, keep an eye on it, if she gets breathing problems, or starts panting extremely, then call immediately and come back, our vet was also on duty that Saturday, so we could also call immediately if necessary. Fortunately, it has not been necessary. She ate a little that same afternoon, and drank immediately, so that went well. The next day she ate normally again, but special food, because the blood test showed that her kidneys were no longer okay, but oh well, that can also be added, ;-) She didn't eat on Sunday!! And she really had to, because she still gets antibiotics and painkillers ...... so how did we manage that??? Well, then smuggle it, ;-) and mix something delicious in it, luckily then the food did go in!!
Also, she made it difficult yesterday! So I smuggled something again and this morning I was thinking about her old food. I mixed that in, she was enjoying herself, ;-) So now slowly reduce with the old food, and more and more of the new food (which I personally don't think smells really appetizing either).
Maybe someone has tips for good food, what food is allowed for dogs with
kidney problems???
So happy things worked out for her. It's always upsetting when you don't the outcome of a procedure.

thanx for your reaction, i'm so happy too because she's my little everything, and yes i know that she is almost 12 years of age, but she's is a little dog and i hope that she is going to hold up untill my partner is retired, ;-) and hopefully much longer, ;-)
Glad to hear that she's doing great! It sure was a frightening day. Leaving her behind at the vet, not knowing if she would wake up again. I'm so happy that she is home again, and doing good! Give her a big hug from me.
As for the food, try to find something she likes, and find her some snacks too. Lol. She is used to get those.
i'm trying to find snacks she is aloud to have, whimsees is something she is aloud, now find out were to find them, ;-)
I never heard of Whimzees before, but good to know that she's allowed to have those. I was looking where you could buy them, and saw that Bol.com offers a variety of that brand.
The story got me feel sad at first and I am glad things are going okay now.
personally, I don't pet so I can't really say the best of what to expect for the issue of kidneys sorry ☹
