Pacca has been our pet for 15 years. She arrived at our home one day as she was passing by, and my daughter saw her and decided to grab her since there's a busy road near my house. She thought a car might run her over. We're so tired of seeing that scene so many times.

I've always thought, and I tell my children, that if they're going to have a pet—a dog, a cat, or any other animal they want—they should take good care of it because they're just like us; they eat, they need to be bathed, and they get sick.

A few months ago, we started noticing a lump on her mouth and another on the thigh of her right hind leg. We started looking for a veterinary clinic to take her to. The doctor could tell us what these tumors were and what we should do.

The doctor examined her and found her healthy despite her age, that she was a little overweight, and that we needed to spay her. Pacca hasn't had a mate and therefore has never had a litter. He also advised us not to operate on the tumor in her mouth, but that we would have to remove the one in her leg.

I didn't agree with having both surgeries done at once because I know how uncomfortable it is, and the poor dog couldn't figure out how to get comfortable enough to sleep or sit up. My daughter took care of her dressings and giving her medication on time, as this is very important for her recovery.

Thank God, Pacca is now recovered, and the scar is drying and healing nicely. Although it has bothered her a little, we had to put a sweater on her to cover the wounds so they wouldn't bother her. Everything is fine now; she's jumping around, in good spirits, and eating well.

Pets can't speak, but if you connect with them, you can really understand what they want and feel. They give us so much love, and this is a way to repay them for all the unconditional affection they give us.
