A few days ago I wrote about the crazy white chicken that wanted to breed in the transport box for the cats.
This neighbor's chicken who has joined the group of "native chickens", i.e. stray chickens, and roams the jungle with them during the day looking for food and sleeps with them in the tree in the backyard at night.
Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich über das verrückte weiße Huhn geschrieben, das unbedingt in der Transportbox für die Katzen brüten wollte.
Dieses Nachbarshuhn, das sich der Gruppe der "Native Chicken", also der verwilderten Hühner, angeschlossen hat und mit ihnen tagsüber durch den Dschungel zieht, um Futter zu suchen, und nachts mit ihnen auf dem Baum im Hinterhof schläft.
Chickens and cats don't know each other, they didn't grow up together, but the cats tolerate the chickens pushing them away from the feeding place. Somehow I can understand that, because our cats never have to go hungry. They live in the certainty that there will always be enough food.
It was incomprehensible to me that a cat would leave her box with her kittens because the chicken wanted to get in. It was even stranger that the chicken had already gone into the box and laid her egg while there was still a kitten inside.
Hühner und Katzen kennen sich nicht, sind nicht zusammen aufgewachsen, aber die Katzen dulden es, dass die Hühner sie vom Futterplatz verdrängen. Irgendwie kann ich das noch verstehen, denn unsere Katzen müssen nie Hunger leiden. Sie leben in der Gewissheit, dass immer genug Nachschub kommt.
Unverständlich war für mich, dass eine Katze mit ihren Jungen ihre Box verlässt, weil das Huhn unbedingt hinein will. Noch merkwürdiger war, dass das Huhn schon in die Box gegangen ist und ihr Ei gelegt hat, als noch ein Kätzchen drin war.
But this chicken tops everything. I can still vividly remember how my cats' teeth used to chatter back in Germany when they would sit on the window sill and watch the birds outside in the feeder. And the birds knew it.
Here, a hen and her two chicks, still unable to fly, are foraging for food not two meters away from a cat watching them,
But the crazy thing is that Flecki, the cat, made no attempt to catch the chicks.
Strange animals!
Aber dieses Huhn toppt alles. Ich habe noch plastisch vor Augen und in den Ohren, wie die Zähne meiner Katzen, früher in Deutschland, klapperten, wenn sie am Fensterbrett die Vögel draußen beobachteten, die sich im Futterhaus tummelten. Und die Vögel wussten es.
Hier geht eine Henne mit ihren zwei noch flugunfähigen Küken auf Futtersuche, keine zwei Meter von einer Katze entfernt, die sie beobachtet,
Das Verrückte aber ist, dass Flecki, die Katze, keine Anstalten machte, die Küken zu fangen.
