Tommy is the name of my dog who came home when he was 3 months old, a neighbor who had a poodle dog gave birth to 6 puppies and this neighbor gave us one who is Tommy and he has a great story that I want to tell you about. Tommy doesn't go out of the house much because he doesn't like it that much, although sometimes we take him out to enjoy running and feeling free (I love it because he gets out of control and looks very happy when he wants to go out). I can say that he is not such a terrible dog, just that sometimes he doesn't pay attention and misbehaves and pees where he shouldn't, but otherwise Tommy is usually a great dog.
Mi madre un día conoció a una persona que le comento de un lugar donde afeitan a los perros, nunca lo habíamos llevado hacia ese sitio que esta un poco cerca pero al mismo tiempo retirado de mi hogar, bueno decidimos que lo íbamos a estar llevando hacia allá para que lo afeitaran, le dieran un gran baño y ver como quedaba para luego tomar la decisión de llevarlo nuevamente porque donde lo llevábamos regularmente suele ser un sitio si ya mas lejano. Llegando al sitio donde iban afeitar a Tommy hay una gran colina, hay que subir un poco y luego se llega al lugar. Mi madre lleva a Tommy donde lo deja, la señora le comenta que lo vaya a buscar a las 2 de la tarde, para ese momento eran las 11 de la mañana y mi madre se regresa sin imaginarse por ningún momento lo que iba a suceder luego.
My mother one day met a person who told her about a place where they shave the dogs, we had never taken him to that place that is a little close but at the same time far from my home, well we decided that we were going to take him there to be shaved, give him a great bath and see how he was and then make the decision to take him again because where we took him regularly is usually a place if already more distant. Arriving at the place where they were going to shave Tommy there is a big hill, you have to climb a little and then you get to the place. My mother takes Tommy to where she leaves him, the lady tells her to pick him up at 2:00 in the afternoon, by that time it was 11:00 in the morning and my mother goes back without imagining for a moment what was going to happen next.

Tommy se Escapa del Lugar - Tommy Escapes from the Site
Recuerdo perfectamente que mi madre llego a casa comentando que ya había dejado a Tommy perfectamente en el sitio, tenia algunos perritos por delante y a el lo habían colocado en un lugar donde se supone que estaba todo seguro y no podría salir. Nosotros cuidamos mucho a Tommy en verdad lo amamos y decimos que es el hijo chiquito de la casa. Teníamos un poco de preocupación de que fuera a quedar un poco feo, pues es la primera vez que llevábamos a Tommy a este nuevo lugar con otra persona, pero siempre teniendo fe de que iba a lucir bien y llegaría muy bonito y bañadito de la peluquería canina.
I remember perfectly that my mother came home commenting that she had already left Tommy perfectly in place, she had some puppies ahead of her and he had been placed in a place where everything was supposed to be safe and he could not get out. We take great care of Tommy, we really love him and we say that he is the youngest son of the house. We were a little worried that he was going to look a little ugly, since it was the first time we took Tommy to this new place with someone else, but we always had faith that he would look good and would arrive very nice and bathed from the dog groomer.
Se estaba preparando el almuerzo en mi hogar cuando mi madre justamente me dice que este pendiente de los plátanos, ella iba ir a botar la basura a un bajante que esta en la torre porque vivimos en una residencia y cuando abre la puerta de la casa se encuentra con una enorme sorpresa. Tommy que haces aquí grita mi mama claramente, yo me asomo hacia la puerta cuando veo que esta Tommy con muchas matas en su cuerpo, se encontraba un poco sucio y estaba frente de la reja esperando que alguien abriera. Realmente fue un Wao!! sabíamos que se trataba de Tommy, abrimos la puerta lo limpiamos de todo lo que tenia encima, el se encontraba muy cansado, también estaba muy agitado y nosotros simplemente pensábamos de como había regresado nuestro Tommy solo hacia la casa.
Lunch was being prepared at my home when my mother just told me to keep an eye on the bananas, she was going to throw the garbage in a downspout that is in the tower because we live in a residence and when she opens the door of the house she finds a huge surprise. Tommy, what are you doing here, my mom shouts clearly, I look at the door when I see Tommy with many bushes on his body, he was a little dirty and was in front of the gate waiting for someone to open the door. We knew it was Tommy, we opened the door and cleaned him of everything he had on him, he was very tired, he was also very agitated and we were just thinking about how our Tommy had come back to the house alone.
Como 5 minutos mas tarde de todo eso sonó el teléfono local de la casa, cuando atendemos se trataba de la señora encargada de la peluquería, en el tono de voz se escuchaba muy nerviosa y nos dice que Tommy no estaba en el lugar. Le comentamos que tranquila no se preocupe que estaba con nosotros, no sabíamos como había llegado pero se encontraba en casa y que ya íbamos a subirlo de vuelta para que lo afeitaran y ahora con mas razón recibiera un gran baño porque por lo visto paso por lugares donde había monte. Le quitamos algunas garrapatas que tenia, seguro las agarro en el trayecto, luego mi madre volvió a subirlo y nos dice que donde el estaba metido había una rejilla que nuestro gran Tommy rompió y salió fácilmente por ahí hacia la calle. Menos mal no le paso nada a nuestro perrito, caminando hacia la peluquería son como 12 minutos aproximadamente, ósea no es nada corto el camino y mi perro que jamás en la vida había ido hacia ese lugar se había regresado solo hasta la puerta de mi casa.
About 5 minutes later the local phone rang, when we answered it was the lady in charge of the hairdresser's, her tone of voice sounded very nervous and she told us that Tommy was not in the place. We told her not to worry, he was with us, we didn't know how he had arrived but he was at home and that we were going to take him back up to be shaved and now with more reason to give him a big bath because apparently he had passed through places where there was a lot of brush. We removed some ticks that he had, he must have picked them up on the way, then my mother took him back up and told us that where he was stuck there was a grate that our big Tommy broke and easily went out to the street. Thank goodness nothing happened to our dog, walking to the hairdresser is about 12 minutes, it is not a short walk and my dog who had never in his life gone to that place had returned alone to the door of my house.
Sorprendido de como se Aprendió el Camino - Surprised at how the Way was Learned
Esta historia de Tommy la hemos comentado a muchos familiares, muchos amigos y aun no comprendemos como nuestro Tommy se pudo venir solo de ese lugar del cual no había visitado antes. Esto nos dice el gran poder que tienen los perros en el olfato, también su inteligencia para poder acordarse y detallar todo el camino para no perderse. Tommy seguro se asusto mucho en la casa de la peluquera, pensó que quizás lo íbamos a dejar ahí para siempre, por eso busco la forma de poder salir y cuando lo hizo se fue con todo de vuelta hacia el hogar donde ha vivido tantos años. Nuestro Tommy al día de hoy cuenta con 12 años de edad conviviendo con nosotros, esto sucedió hace 2 años y para ese entonces ya contaba con 10 años de estar en la casa y el temor de irse de aquí fue muy grande para el.
We have told this story of Tommy to many family members, many friends and we still do not understand how our Tommy could come alone from that place he had not visited before. This tells us the great power that dogs have in their sense of smell, as well as their intelligence to be able to remember and detail all the way so as not to get lost. Tommy surely got very scared at the groomer's house, he thought that maybe we were going to leave him there forever, that's why he looked for a way to get out and when he did he went back to the home where he has lived for so many years. Our Tommy is now 12 years old living with us, this happened 2 years ago and by that time he had been in the house for 10 years and the fear of leaving was very big for him.
Pienso que quizás el rastro de mi madre fue lo que Tommy estuvo siguiendo, pero de ser así es impresionante que lo haya detectado, pues no se cuanto tiempo puede durar el aroma de una persona en la calle y si los perros tienen ese gran olfato tan detallado para poder hacer ese gran seguimiento luego de varios minutos de que la persona pasara por algún lugar. Lo importante es que no se perdió, pudo llegar sano y salvo a mi casa porque fácilmente se pudo haber perdido, de haber sucedido eso me hubiera dado un dolor enorme, cualquier persona también lo pudo agarrar para llevárselo y para la peluquera fuera sido también algo muy trágico porque era su responsabilidad cuidar a todos los perros.
I think that maybe my mother's scent was what Tommy was following, but if so it is impressive that he detected it, because I don't know how long a person's scent can last in the street and if dogs have that great detailed sense of smell to be able to do that great tracking after several minutes of the person passing somewhere. The important thing is that he was not lost, he was able to arrive safe and sound to my house because he could have easily been lost, if that had happened it would have given me a huge pain, any person could also grab him to take him away and for the hairdresser it would also have been something very tragic because it was her responsibility to take care of all the dogs.
Tommy No Volvió mas Hacia esa Peluquería - Tommy never went back to that barber shop again.
Después de esta aventura de Tommy escapando del lugar para regresar a nuestra casa, tomamos la decisión que no iba ir mas hacia esta peluquería, pues los cuidados no fueron los mejores y claramente al notar que Tommy no quiso estar ahí lo mejor es que no volviera mas. Nos dio un poco de tristeza ver como llego a casa todo mal, también mi madre cuenta que se alegro mucho cuando abrió la puerta y la vio porque se sintió seguro de que había vuelto a casa. No solo es lo lejano que puede llegar a ser el sitio, si no que hay una gran carretera donde pasan muchos carros a una velocidad alta, hay gran movimiento de personas y todos esos obstáculos nuestro Tommy lo pudo superar hasta llegar a casa.
After this adventure of Tommy escaping from the place to return to our house, we made the decision that he was not going to go to this hairdressing salon anymore, because the care was not the best and clearly when we noticed that Tommy did not want to be there, the best thing was that he did not come back anymore. We were a little sad to see how he came home all bad, also my mother tells us that he was very happy when he opened the door and saw her because he felt sure that he had come home. It is not only how far away the place can be, but there is a big road where many cars pass by at high speed, there is a lot of movement of people and all these obstacles our Tommy was able to overcome until he got home.
Hoy en día Tommy se encuentra todavía muy fuerte a pesar que ya le decimos el viejito, paso de ser el chiquito de la casa a estar ya un poco mas adulto, pero todavía tiene gran energía para correr y ladrar fuertemente. Ahora lo llevamos hacia otra peluquera que se encuentra un poco mas lejos, pero todo esta seguro y Tommy no ha sufrido ningún inconveniente en dicho establecimiento. Para Tommy ese momento seguro fue de gran supervivencia, me imagino que se sentía en peligro, asustado con mucha ansiedad de querer regresar a zona segura, ellos también tienen grandes sentimientos y eso de seguro no fue para Tommy una experiencia agradable. Con esto me despido espero que la gran aventura de Tommy les haya parecido interesante, para nosotros sigue siendo una anécdota fantástica de contar pero al mismo tiempo felices de que todo fue bueno y no resulto ser grave que pudo fácilmente serlo.
Today Tommy is still very strong even though we call him the old man, he has gone from being the little boy of the house to being a little more adult, but he still has great energy to run and bark loudly. Now we are taking him to another groomer's that is a little farther away, but everything is safe and Tommy has not suffered any inconvenience in that establishment. For Tommy that moment was surely of great survival, I imagine that he felt in danger, scared with a lot of anxiety of wanting to return to a safe zone, they also have great feelings and that for sure was not for Tommy a pleasant experience. With this I hope you found Tommy's great adventure interesting, for us it is still a fantastic anecdote to tell but at the same time we are happy that everything went well and it did not turn out to be serious as it could easily have been.
