The main reason was that it's the contest of views for Hive links, not views for pictures or text content. When you are rewarded with Redditposh, several factors are taken into account so image shares are rewarded too. But in this contest, only Reddit views are taken into account.
Image shares allow generating many views because nobody actually sees Hive link at once (it's only the author of the share sees it below shared picture/pix). That may lead to a huge amount of views and eventually huge frontend views too so such shares are valuable and rewarded with Redditposh. But views of shared images aren't views of Hive links.
Moreover, image shares allow manipulating Reddit views easier.
It might be adding image shares to this contest wouldn't actually harm it. We can try and see... But actually why? New decisions in HivePosh are sometimes made slowly. If something is implemented, it might last for months despite all the bad things. Better not to experiment with what nicely works.
In that case I get it. I thought the goal was to attract as many people to Hive frontends, no matter what you shared: links, images or text. If the goal is that people have to see the link, than images are mostly not appropriate. I think in some cases utilizing a proper image / gif could attract more people, like for example this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/s/h87b75SJs1
I believe people click through to discover the article and the gif works as a clickbait. When I compare that one with another share, I have approximately as much views on PeakD.
BUT I get it that we don't want to include posts where just an image / gif / meme is shared without trying to lure people to a hive frontend.
For a contest you have to make rules which are fair and manageable. So I guess overall I think it's the best if we just let the rules for what they are. I / others are still rewarded with Redditposh for image shares so actually I don't have to complain at all.
I agree, just leave the rules as they are. Just wanted to share my reasoning. 🙌
Yup. I share image galleries with links too to get Redditposh rewards.
I have no opinion about that - never tried to share gifs... If this helps to bring more people - cool.
