--Welcome to Social Media and the Blockchain. I am your host, Jennifer Navarrete and this episode is the twenty-fifth in a 30-part series.

The goal of this show is to demystify the blockchain as a content creation destination, simplify the onboarding process, and encourage you to learn more about Web 3.0.

Before we begin, I want to remind you that this podcast is for educational purposes only and is not financial or investment advice. I am sharing my own experience and level understanding. Please do your own due diligence. Now let’s get started.

In the previous episode Satoshis and the Value4Value model were explained. In this episode we are going to look at the practical application of enabling the Value4Value model for your podcast so your listeners can send you value in return for the value your podcast provides them. Okay, so I want to give you a quick word of encouragement Some of what I’m about to say may sound like I’m speaking a foreign language, like Klingon. Stay with me on this because once you understand the power of Podcasting 2.0 and Value4Value you’ll never look at your podcast the same way again.

So what is the process to enable the Value4Value block in your RSS feed? Luckily, there is a step-by-step process which can be found at https://satoshis.stream Link is in the show notes.

Once there scroll down to the section marked “For podcast creators”
There are two options. One which is relatively easy and the other which will require you to put your techie geeky hat on. I can tell you that I went with the relatively easy version which is the first option titled:

⚡️ Use this service

Once you get that setup then your podcast will be ready for Streaming SATS!

You may be wondering, can my listeners who listen on traditional podcast apps stream SATS to my show?

Nope. They’ll need to listen to your show on a Podcast 2.0 enabled app. Which you can find at www.newpodcastapps.com At the time of this recording there are 24 Podcast 2.0 enabled apps plus 21 directories, plugins, hosting services which are Podcast 2.0 ready.

Now not all apps are the same. Some are iOS or Android and others are web only. Each app lists what supported elements they provide. Some offer Value4Value, others have auto-generated transcripts, chapters, and more. I recommend finding a few that look like they might fit your needs and testing them out. I have personally tested out: Podverse, Fountain, Hypercatcher, CurioCaster, Podfriend, and Breez and am looking forward to trying even more.

Now there are two ways your listeners can send value to you. They can “Stream SATS” which means they would set a certain amount of SATS for each minute of the time they spend listening to your show. Hence the term, “Streaming SATs”

The second option is for listeners to send a one-time Boost of SATS with a message which has become known as a Boostigram. When these Boostigrams are sent they include the time code of when it was sent which marks a particular moment in the podcast. The podcaster who receives the Boostigram will know the time code in their show the Boostigram was sent.

This lets them see a direct correlation between the content they create and the value their listeners receive. Isn’t that awesome? We’ve never had a way to know what exact moments in our show which resonate the most with our listeners and what it was about that moments that mattered. Now we do. I don’t know about you, but when I first heard about this it blew my mind. Talk about engagement!

This entire concept of Podcasting 2.0, Value4Value, Streaming SATS, and Boostigrams is so new Dave Jackson from School of Podcasting refers to it as the “bleeding edge”. He’s not wrong. What is happening now with Podcasting 2.0 is in the early stages, but in the next 3-5 years this is where independent podcasters will thrive. If you think about it, Podcasting 2.0 is sort of like creating content on the blockchain and getting rewarded for your efforts.

Now let’s talk about adoption. It’s going to be up to us as podcasters to educate our listeners about Podcasting 2.0, encourage them to try out Podcasting 2.0 enabled podcast apps, Value4Value, Streaming SATS, Boostigrams, etc., which may seem like a lot of effort. And it will be in the beginning. But look at it this way, you’re going to be recording and releasing shows anyway so why not invite your rabid fans to join you on your Podcasting 2.0 journey.

Thank you for joining me for another episode of Social Media and the Blockchain. In the next episode, we’ll look at what Hive has to offer podcasters and how Hive can power Value4Value.
