So, if it happens that life freezes and I happen to be the only one left unfrozen, what would it feel like, and what would I do? First off, I would like you to know that life would still remain silent; in that state life would sleep like a painting, still and with no movement or noise. It will still remain as that, but then it will be strangely heavy. Also, I would definitely be scared at first, you know, having to walk amidst people caught in-between laughter, some caught in-between tears, others at work, some walking, bargaining, lifting heavy objects, and the like while being in awkward positions. But once I get over all of that, what would I do...?
First, I would go to my mother, who I'm very sure would be caught in-between either doing house chores or in her shop selling to customers. If she's in the kitchen, I would take my time to help out with whatever she's doing, then take my time to really study her face. I'm sure those kinds of moments would really reveal those hidden messages on her face, those tired lines, that sad face she often conceals with a smile. And I would shout out how much I love and appreciate her. I know she or anyone wouldn't hear, but then I would feel lighter and happier.
After that, I would make my way to the streets, passing by strangers all frozen through their daily routines. The bus conductor calling onto potential passengers, drivers in-between igniting their bus, and those hawking in-between giving out goods and extending their hands to get their payments. I would look at it all and see how much life does feel/look like a race. I would pause in front of a few and tell them, Well done., I would tell them they are seen and that their hard work will definitely pay off someday. I would encourage them and also pray that they find peace, joy, and love in this very brief and unpredictable moment we call life.
And if I still have some more time, I would take time out to write letters to those I might have hurt, tell them I'm sorry, and ask for forgiveness. I would also write a letter to those I might have lost, telling them how much I love and miss them. I would also write a letter to my future self telling him to do away with procrastinating, to do what's needed to be done on time, and to not waste time chasing shadows while the people who truly matter are still there alive.
I know I might be tempted to take pictures, maybe as a memory or something else, but I would make sure to kill that urge. Some things are best left the way they are; the memories you have about them are okay. Also, no one, absolutely no one, would know about it, just me. It might be heavy, but I would make sure to carry the weight of that one hour for the rest of my life. I'm sure that that single experience would teach me how important time and each second are and the fact that life can actually stop without warning.
What would I do after? Well, I wouldn't wait for another frozen hour onward; I wouldn't wait for a frozen time to say, "I love you, I miss you, I see you, forgive me, I'm sorry..." and the like. I wouldn't waste any more time, as I've very well seen and understand how time can stop anytime. I would stop burying my dreams under fear; I would start living more intentionally and full of love.
The truth is, if one hour can open my eyes to see that which truly matters, then every unfrozen hour after that is a chance to truly and really live.
