DIY Cardboard Puzzle for toddlers 🧩🟨

in Home Edders • 4 years ago

Hello everyone,

We all know that resolving puzzles have healthy benefits in children's development.

Personally, I really love making puzzles...it conforts me and relaxes me as well. I always loved this. As a kid, I made every single puzzle I could find.

That's why, we have lots of puzzles all around the house: for grownups and for children too. I often buy puzzles for my kid but when my toddler was 1 yr and a half I made these DIY PUZZLE for him. He did great!

When your child is alone, doing puzzle you can expect three basic skills to be built:

  • Phisical skills (Hand-Eye Coordination, Gross and Fine motor skills) - from holding puzzle pieces and turning them until they fit
  • Cognitive skills ( Shape recognition, Memory, Problem solving) - as they solve the problems of a puzzle
  • Emotional skills ( Setting goals, patience) - they learn patience and are rewarded when they complete the puzzle [Read more about the benefits of puzzles here]

Two Pieces Shape Puzzles

You need only two items:

  • Cardboard
  • Markers

The child have to match these on pairs.

There are plenty of possibilities on how to make this one, if you have some good drawing skills. You can go on colors, shapes, flowers, animals etc.

Focusing on Sizes: Square Puzzle

The second puzzle I've made was really simple.

You need:

  • cardboard
  • a cutter/knife/scissors
  • glue and colored paper

I wanted him to focus on sizes, not colors or anything else. That's why you need to keep the same color on your cutting puzzle.

If it's easier for you, you can cut circles, rectangles, triangles or whatever you like.

Hola amiga always with fun strategies and didactic materials made with our hands. I really like the puzzles, they really help children in many ways, especially figure recognition, concentration and logical reasoning.

Thank you so much! >:D<

You’re like making puzzles for little ones, sounds like a potential business idea if you ever needed one 😜 little one looks like they’re having a great time 🙃

Well, yeah! Thank you! :)
When he was that age, he always had a great time when we did learning activities. He's still enjoying them but some things have changed now.

As simple as it may seem but this is a great education tool that I can actually use to develop my toddler's memorization, color recognition, and motor skills development. Thank you for sharing.

So happy to hear that! As you can see, it's really easy to do and is totally free of costs. Everyone has some cardboard around and a few markers or color pencils.
