I firmly believe Hive will have them out far before Steem does and I even doubt Steem will ever launch SMTs at this point to be honest.
I agree with this 1000%.
This is going to be one of the biggest separators between Hive and Steem going forward. I have a feeling the development on Hive will far outpace that of Steem in all areas.
It is the reason to be optimistic about Hive.
HMTs (or whatever they are called) will allow for the community/tribe concept to extend to every area of the internet. I am glad to see you mentioning them.
