Should Hive Have a Community Reset?

We are all going to Heaven Hive Yayyyyyy (2).png

I do write a posts or two and I often read some of the posts from the whales on Hive. I find most of them pretty interesting when the big boys do find time to write but every time a whale posts you get the same old accounts crying foul for being downvoted all the time. You know the ones. The usual comment that is muted and goes on forever. Now many of these accounts were downvoted for running elaborate scams and were not playing by the rules of the community and deserve to be downvoted. There were a couple recently that were downvoted because they posted up a weekly template about betting results. The guy has been on Hive years. I see nothing wrong with his posts . What is a shit post to some may not be a shit post to others who like betting results posts and all that. Some guys use Hive as a type of diary entry. How better to do it than a blockchain. Many more posters on Hive admit the posts they write are a diary of their lives so maybe this sports stuff is a diary of a different kind. It is all subjective. Take @dbuzz a few years ago. They were considered fiends and enemies of Steem or Hive or where ever they started because of short form content and now we have many short form content Dapp's popping up and it is now considered the way to go. Turns out @dbuzz was before its time and were making waves. They were on the decentralised buzz before any of us. Now everyone is trying to do it. Who knew!

I never forget my first post I ever wrote on Hive after my introductory post was about Bancor. Something happened and it was rugged or something so I uploaded a Youtube video of the news. I was happy out with my post and I published it. A while later I received a comment from an account called @cheetah saying my post had been found elsewhere on the internet. But I was not aware of the consequences. I was horrified when I found out cheetah was bad and it was for plagiarizing and I was to be dammed to hell. I was delighted in a way that I had made this mistake on my second post because it set me on my way on Hive and that was the last time I have ever been flagged for anything of that kind again. Plus as you can see from my grammatically tragic posts, there is no chance I am using AI either which is now a strength. The first time I was properly downvoted was a couple of weeks ago after calling a guy a bit of a fool for giving a loan to someone on Hive. I was not aware he was in the loan business at the time so I was quite ignorant to the fact and I was promptly downvoted on the posts for that week. I was quite pissed off by this and I learnt my lesson but I can imagine if this kept happening I would be packing my bags and powering down pretty swiftly I would imagine. Some of the people that are downvoted ( whether it is for legitimate reasons or not ) have stuck around which I find quite surprising. They still post even though their posts are downvoted to 0. So we ask why are they even still here?? Maybe it is a layer 2 token that they are interested in. I am not sure.

There have been many arguments over the years and downvote wars. Even today someone upvoted me and commented and there were 6 downvotes on his comment. I don't care what people say it must be annoying in the very least especially for the whales. I have conversed with a few of our heavy stakeholders and most of them are sound as a bell and dedicated to Hive. The people that are being downvoted by them must have had an elaborate scam going on or are not abiding by the posting rules. But how long is the prison period for the sullied? 1 year? , 5 years? Infinity? Or are these people eternally banned from Hive? Where does it end? These people are forever in purgatory or making a post and being downvoted off the map. But when we go back to some of the ways, there are downvote trails following them around like little fish on a whale.

The question I will put out is should there be a date where we should wipe the slate clean. Bring a few tin foil helmets back in from the cold. Give them the final written warning and see how they get on. For the whale rows we could bring in a Hive mediator to sort through some stuff and move forward. Get a few back from Blurt and even bring the old Steem heads back in from the cold. I realised recently that Hive is a very very small place really and any controversial posts about anything are read by everyone. We are all alot closer to each other than you may think. Even the nutbags stay around and post their comment trail whenever they get the chance. But they are our nutbags and somethings you need them as if anything they are dedicated to Hive.

So since the end of hivewatchers , would it be a call to action to wipe the slate clean on any beefs or downvote trails. Start a fresh. Clean bill of health. And if someone starts being a Scammy Mcginty again then they thoroughly deserve it and the Community just blows them out of the water. We can come up with a name for it.

  • The Great Hive Reset.
  • 2nd Chance Saloon
  • Eating with the Enemy. Where two Hive stalwarts sit down for a meal and discuss their differences to discover they are best of friends.(DHF will cover location and meal expenses)
  • Rage in the Cage. Steel cage match where @woowrestlers will organise. Put two whales who hate each other in a steel cage ladder match. On top of the ladder is a raspberry pi node.

Pledge
I will start by putting a stop to sending kiss emojii's to my serial sullied commenter @kgakakillerg and @bpcvoter and like a few of their posts.

Comment below your pledge.

"...a shit post to some may not be a shit post to others..."

This is the reality of social media. None of us are gods and righteous arbiters of what is good content. We can define spam, but must differentiate between spam and shitposts to have a real definition. Furthermore, if we want a popular social site, then we can't impose elitist standards. Shitposts that get upvoted have a real market, and are properly allowable posts. Hundreds of thousands of users have been driven off the platform for shitposting by elitist tools and now our token isn't $10, but $.10.

Great job, assholes!

Here's a thought. If a post isn't your cup of tea, don't read it. Don't upvote it. If it isn't a threat to society, it's none of your business. HW and certain whales have used various excuses to flag ~1m users off the platform so that ~36 whales could continuously maintain a bare majority of stake and thereby maintain complete control of the witnesses and rule Hive regardless of what the minority of stake (although the majority of users) thinks about it. These whales extract >90% of the inflation from the rewards pool, and the rest of us feed on the crumbs that fall from their bloated maws.

The lack of users depresses token price, but enables the whales to keep a death grip on governance, and guarantees their continued extraction of the vast majority of wealth from the platform. I consider that glaringly short sighted, comparable to a petty thief that steals a kid's lunch money once by beating him up (guaranteeing he'll hide his lunch money from you after that) instead of extorting him for all of his lunch money during all four years of high school by using photoshop to fake a pic of him with some ugly girl or something. That's the result of knowing nothing more about investing (or extortion) than 'Cash is King'.

"...why are they even still here?"

Maybe they don't like being bullied. Maybe they think bullies are a detriment to society and are willing to stand up to them to defend the rest of us. You might ask them. Maybe they're the heroes we need, but don't deserve. I have learned from time to time people I follow and whose content I quite enjoy were being flagged. I began using the beneficiary function of Peakd to dedicate 1/4 of my author rewards to such good folks to encourage them to keep posting, however it often wasn't enough (I don't earn phat bank from my posts) and folks kept leaving. Some while back I began using the tip function to donate a hive to each of their posts and comments on my blog I found relevant. That has worked better to keep folks posting here, despite being flagged by HW continuously for some error or obnoxious opinion years ago, which was my goal.

I don't want to destroy Hive and run off it's users, whether I agree with them or not. One of the accounts I used to support was at times rabidly insulting to me, in fact. @baah was a relentless troll, and society (especially Hive society) needs relentless trolls to keep us honest and on our toes, so I supported him (although I once muted him because he just wouldn't shut up about something or other I was over - the only time I recall ever muting anyone on Hive). Sadly I no longer get to enjoy his irascible rants, and he seems to have moved on to a gloomier bridge to lurk under. I want Hive's user base to grow, and increase the value of our token. So, I do what I can to encourage the heroes that stand up to bullies here when I feel it's necessary.

With the unfunding of HW, I've been able to re-target more substantial creators to support with the beneficiary function, and have quit hemorrhaging Hive as tips, which is good, because my account can grow faster and be more helpful to the community in the future.

"... I will start by putting a stop to sending kiss emojii's..."

Excellent example. I too will never again send a kiss emoji on Hive. Flag me into dust if I do.

Thanks!

I remember @baah . A classic disrupter . There are so many names that have came and gone . They livened the place up I think.

I have just read that HW is funded again. I had so hoped that Hive would be able to grow. Now I am sad.

Quick get out the elk skins to cheer you up . 😀😀

I have just read that HW is funded again. I had so hoped that Hive would be able to grow. Now I am sad.

No, there's no reason to be sad yet. Although we're still very close to being so if we don't act quickly and decisively. And to prevent us from having to be sad, you can click here right away and carefully follow the simple instructions I have given there to avoid that from happening.

Everyone in Hive needs to do this now, immediately. Since in that post, I already created the simplest and most effective procedure to prevent sadness from overwhelming us again. Just «click» where you need to in the post and simply follow the instructions that will be given to you after that.

Since the threat is still nipping at our heels, and the gap between joy and sorrow is still very narrow. ¡Vote NOW!

While I am not sure about a "great hive reset", I do agree about the issue of downvoting. Initially, the downvotes were there to ensure the integrity of the network. Making sure that the posts were not to game the system or establish an issue that will eventually be harmful to the proof of brain concept. Now it's more subjective, almost like a Reddit downvote button. If one doesn't agree to a post, downvote.

There's even an issue where a user has complained of an established member who's "keeping an eye on them", or in his own words "putting him under his radar" and has become critical of him and downvotes as some sort of power play.

This has gotten out of hand.

There's a recent whale which purchased up some HP that never seems to have really interacted with the broader Hive community and now are. I've noticed they're downvoting people and their reason is simply "It's content I just didn't like."

This is what I hate about the way they can be used. Instead of just not reading/watching/engaging, the downvote is used and someone's earned rewards (plus time and effort into the post which isn't even guaranteed to get any rewards) are decreased.

Understandable when it's posts that are abuse. Plagiarism or some sort of farming. But say you go into the Hive Gaming community and hate gaming, then downvote the posts because you didn't like the game being talked about, what are you even doing at that point? These are the sorts of people we don't want nor need on Hive, especially at this point where user numbers and activity have been dropping off alongside the price. So many names have disappeared out of thin air, so many people have left recently and just said they're done for one reason or another. We should be encouraging people to stick around and finding incentives to get people here in the first place.

What good is it if we do get people here and the first thing they get is a downvote because someone didn't like the city they travelled to and posted about?

It sucks we've reached this point. I don't think a community reset would mean anything, given this recent example.

Yes I have seen some of them and totally disagree with them .

Would the medicine go down easier if instead of 'I don't like it' the reason was 'it was over rewarded, imo'?

Somebody needs to kick the hive, too many folks looking unalive around here.
I have more than 400 accounts on my autovoter and it rarely votes 10 in a day.

I always thought dbuzz bot a bum deal.

Right extreme case. Say a whale thinks your post is great. Best thing since sliced pan. Post Title : " I made a Hive Node in my garage using tin foil, some pipe cleaners , a tweezers and an old GPU" . He awards you a handsome $25. Then someone comes along and thinks your post is shite because they don't like the taste of raspberry pies and downvotes you for being over rewarded. 😃 This is all subjective.

How long before it stops... this helps:

In other words, stay in your lane. lol.

ps that's from experience, lol.

are you a blaggard @sunlit7 ? 😂

Mate, I love this. I do not understand nor appreciate vindictiveness and downvote trails are the worst. They don't do much for Hives reputation and say a lot about the downvoter being a cunt and a bully. It goes against what downvoting was invented for. Everyone deserves a second chance.

And downvoting because you don't like content is just censorship which goes against everything Hive is meant to be about.

Go on ya good thing @riverflows . Very true

You're such a good fellow... really. Always for the better in the best of the worlds. I agree to the point here. Though at the same time my guts grin at me: Hehehe, it's good to have dreams !

Haha, I cant always say why some people are downvoted forever but I have in the past downvoted some people forever. For me it is usually death threatery, utter cuntiness or some other level spanny/scammy shit.

Well I’d trust whoever you downvote because I know it would be for legitimate reasons .

Mostly 😀😀😀😀

I don't think downvotes should go away and I also don't think the most prominent abusers should get a second chance. That's just me though. I think they new the rules going in, or at least an idea. Were given a chance to fix it, but likely replied with excuses or attacks and found themselves where they are now.

I’m not calling for an end of downvotes . They are much needed . I’m asking the question whether we should pardon a few blaggards to see if they would become Hive abiding citizens . But you @bozz have banished them all to hell and no coming back . 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

That's right. As someone else stated, I have no mercy. Either that, or I just understand human nature all too well!

I get your point and I don't necessary disagree with you in a way. I am just asking the question. I love the way there are no grey areas with you bozzy 🤣

Since I registered HIVE (Steemit back then), I have always said that downvote is hazardous to the community if used on purpose.

There is definitely a need for it for some content that is blatently abusing the reward pool so I do agree it should be there but one mans rubbish is another mans treasure so its a difficult one. What if someone uploaded the Epstein files on Hive. Would that be considered a shit post? 😃
