I always found the BRO token too expensive for their usecase but the price of the token put me off buying any which turned out ok for me in the end. But I have been thinking about Layer 2 tokens on Hive as I am currently researching it for a project myself. Which ones have genuinely worked out on Hive. I asked the question last week about how to make a good Community and the layer 2 tokens were a make or break for some people to join. I knew about this before when I made a football community and most of the football posters would not leave Sportstalk because they were earning Sports tokens. Now these were worthless but it was the perception that they would increase down the tracks which made some people stay in sports and not joing a football Community.
I look at many of these tokens on HE and they are worthless. What layer two tokens have worked out? It was @stayoutoftherz that said why don't the layer 2 communities just use Hive as their native token as many layer 2 tokens are just tokens with no usecase and everyone just ends up selling. Valid point from a clever bloke.
Then I look at the tokens that have worked out. DEC, SPS are the two that spring to mind. SPS is probably our most successful token. We have LEO that has worked out as well I would say although it migrated away from HE. Splinterlands also succeeded in use cases for VOUCHER and their Validator NODE and also their card tokens such as Alpha and Beta, Chaos etc.
But what other Layer 2 tokens have worked out? I have lots of them in my wallet and most are pretty much worthless but I do not know of many that are still going strong. DCity seemed to have disappeared and the same developer designed BXT. Are these tokens now heading down the sewer also?

I would love if someone could let me know if their Community has a layer 2 token and its usecase. The most expensive token I have in my wallet is Zing at 32 cent. Maybe some Communities use their tokens for a usecase even though their tokens are not worth anything and they are happy this way.
So is making a layer 2 token for a Community like a self fulfilling prophecy. Users won't join a Community without a Layer 2. Make a Layer 2 and users sell.
I like my wine and when I visited vineyards in Franschhoek I asked the question. Does the bigger the dimple in the wine bottle make the wine more expensive.The answer was yes and no. Everyone thinks it does so they do it because of this. Wines without a dimple sell less. So they make sure theres a dimple. So HiVE Communities just make a layer 2 token.
What do you think our most successful token is? Is there any unknown tokens that are doing a good job , has a use case but I am not aware of. When layer 2 tokens were established there was massive excitement but now its just mehhhh another token with no use case. Is this damaging Hive then many of these are worthless? It feels like a graveyard of the long forgotten. Use cases for tokens are actually hard to think up of without it being linked to upvoting and then we are getting into shady territory. It's a tough one. What do you think?
I think CL did a buyback a while ago, there may still be a buy wall up if you want to have a look. From memory, it was something like 4.36 HIVE against a token that originally cost 1 HIVE. Originally a LEO backed fund, revolving around CUB, but obviously busted once CUB went down the Swanee, and founder wound up in an orderly, you were better off than when you started, way.
I don't think either CL or XV got all the tokens back that they issued. XV was a two year time limited token that invested in fifteen of the top fifty cryptos, re-balancing over time to maximise profits. It was intended to buyback all the tokens for HIVE at the end of the investment period. I think it was something like 3.36 HIVE (original cost 1 HIVE) at the buyback. I thought that was a good return and better than if the HIVE had been powered up and earned 9-12% curation plus inflation for the same period. Will probably see another iteration of this when we get into the bear market proper (buy low to sell higher).
SPI has already been mentioned, long-term investment token, originally set up along UK Investment Club lines. Hive backed assets with guaranteed buyback at 95% of price, hard cap at 93,000 tokens, most in circulation. I have a stash and have sold back some once or twice when I wanted to invest in something else.
EDSI also already been mentioned, savings and income token. Hive backed asset and with a whole ecosystem. Supported by weekly Saturday Savers Club community for past five years.
DAB, DBOND and RUG - family of tokens modelled on original SPI/EDSI family but with added knobs on. I don't invest in them myself.
LBI - under new management, modelled on SPI but LEO backed assets. I don't invest myself, but like to follow what the new manager is doing.
None of them exchanged as rewards for being part of a specific community. We're too small for community tokens, simply not enough users to give them value.

I'd argue that pretty much all of the ones that SSUK has developed still seem to be doing okay. He does a good job of keeping them backed and reliable though.

I was gifted a token on Steem Engine back in the day that had a value at the time >$1k. It didn't migrate to Hive Engine, and I don't bother with Steem anything anymore, so I have no idea what has happened to it.
I don't bother with speculation. I have other values than money that matter significantly to me that I do spend my time, attention, and effort on, and they are sufficient to demonstrate I can't keep up with that demand already. I can understand interest in capital gains, so don't denigrate folks with such interest. However, I'm old and my death is rapidly approaching, and the value I will take with me beyond the grave will not be tokenized, so the older I get the less I care about moneys.

Hey @blanchy check out the WOO token which is the native gaming token for Wrestling Organization Online. When it comes for uses it is mostly earned from gameplay or other rewards and the sinks include upgrading your player profile (increasing earnings), upgrading any land you may own (increasing how much players can earn from running matches on your land), it can be used to stake, can be used to buy WOOGYMBAGS (FT's that mint NFT consumables to heal your wrestlers), and as BETA releases it will be needed to purchase packs.
I feel like their are more uses I'm not mentioning, but I'm tired from my long train travels and my brain is slightly fried lol. But yeah mostly a game token. We do have plans to integrate it with our live events and physical merch we offer.

SPS / DEC are the only ones I'd believe in due to the usecase. Not to the point of heavily investing in them, But enough to buy small amounts here and there and hold some. The rest are a bit sketchy, most that had 'promise' were really just attempts for certain groups to get rich and dump on plebs. The usual tale: allocate large amounts of the tokens to the people making it, hype it up, dump it down. Though most just never took off to begin with.
I don't really see much point in the rest. We don't really need them, like that person you tagged said: why not just use Hive / HBD?

Sadly most get milked into oblivion and those that stake thinking long term end up with nothing. Have some LEO and LBI and virtually everything else is not worth very much , but it is still about supporting the community than dollar vales now.
I spent a lot of time experimenting with Hive Engine. Although I ultimately had a positive outcome, several projects blatantly consumed hundreds of my hives.
