That was the approach I was going to suggest, so I'll refrain from doubling up.
Maybe add a frame/version with a popup screen depicting a surprise paywall:
"To access your content, please select one of the following subscription plans"
And have some spendy options. I have actually had that experience, multiple times, and one of the attractions of Hive was that there was no greedy corporation to suddenly take my content hostage.
