Using The PeakD List Function to Optimize Curation Rewards & Help Nurture Hive Dolphins

in #hive4 years ago

It all started with @HiveTrending one #HiveChat last month, when he explained that he chooses one wanna-be Dolphin and puts them on 100% upvote every day until they reach their goal. And then chooses another one.

Cool idea.

And so I did that too. My first little hatchling @starstrings01 became a Dolphin this last #HivePUD 😍 and so now it's time to choose the next person and finetune that strategy so I can be even more effective.

My main account, @artemislives follows only one curation trail and prefers to manually upvote. I have a few people on daily autovote x 1 post and the rest I do manually. Because when I comment and vote together I get a much better long term connection with real people (and ROI in the long term!) than if I only autovote.

What I've noticed though is that my voting power isn't always used fully, if not everyone on that particular curation trail posts consistently. I don't want to add more autovotes, cos there ARE days when everyone DOES post and the VP drops to around the 80% level.

Me? I try to not let my VP get much below 85% so that I start each day with being reasonably close to 98-100%.

My habit has been to pop over to my Following Feed at the end of each evening and "use up" any 'spare' VP before I switch off. But timezones are quirky and people post at all kinds of odd times and so I feel like my vote is sometimes going to people I LIKE and ENJOY but perhaps don't really need it anymore to succeed on Hive. Sure, it brings me curation rewards but it doesn't help grow a new community person very much. I'm not perhaps as effective as I could be.

It was through a discussion with @bashadow about engagement & nurturing new Hivers that I learned about the List function on PeakD.

So what I am doing now is creating a LIST of newish accounts - people who have a good daily posting habit and I'm seeing them engage well. I don't necessarily want to follow them, in the sense that their content maybe doesn't personally enthral me, but I want them to thrive on Hive. Because when that vulnerable lowest 20% of the Hive community starts to do well, it attracts & motivates newbies far more quickly than if a consistent earner moves from 25,000 to 26,000 HP.

In my travels around the Hive and as I also curate the @artemisshares account, I SEE people trying really hard & putting out but who need more consistent upvote support. Maybe I can't upvote them everyday, but what I've done is add them to a list. Hive Dolphin Nursery List.

ANYtime my VP is higher than it needs to be at the end of the day, I open that list and fling out some upvotes and encouraging comments. It leaves me feeling good at the end of the day too. Targeting my votes repeatedly and consistently to 10 or 12 chosen likely to succeed & growing fast accounts makes more sense than dropping occassional votes randomly on people who might give up tomorrow.

It's easy, doesn't take much time or energy, optimizes my own curation rewards and supports some new Hivers with big dreams who have already demonstrated their commitment.

The faster & more effectively we group together to create more Dolphins, the healthier the Hive governance system becomes (more people with bigger stakes & bigger voices) and the easier onboarding gets too. Over time.

Not sure where to find the List function on PeakD?

When you want to add someone to your list, you simply to to their profile, click on Actions, and then Add to List. No Lists yet? It will prompt you to create the List then and there. Takes 10 seconds, if that.

SMART INVESTORS & successful people know that it's these little habits that make a BIG difference, over time.

Imagine if 1,000 people each gave out those extra 5 votes every day to the really committed people reaching high who are likely to succeed.... that would be quite an impact over time, as those people reach their Dolphin status & become community leaders & curators, just as @starstrings01 has. And they, in turn, lift up more newbies.

This, my friends, is a far more reliable growth strategy for Hive than endlessly waiting for sleeping bulls and chasing "mass adoption". @LeoFinance hasn't waited for bulls and is reaching a point (even while the bear slumbers on) where painstaking strategy and incremental investment have started to gain momentum.

Think about using your VP more fully everyday, and creating a List of Wanna Be Dolphins you can support whenever your VP is higher than it needs to be at the end of the day. Trust me - it works & YOU will be more motivated as you understand that when the bottom 20% of Hive community grows and succeeds, we all rise higher much more quickly.

Great idea and I love the commitment. I thought it took more than just votes though? Although I see a few on Hive have 'bought' their positions a bit like the British Army used to do. LOL

I shared this post on Twitter to try and get your work in front of more people.
You can find your post and me on Twitter if you like? https://twitter.com/dick_turpin
I've also upvoted you and shared your content on Hive.
I read your post. No Bots were used this was all done manually. Hope That Helps.

"If you don't have enough power or Crypto to upvote me; reshare me instead. Reshares are worth their weight in gold!"
Don't forget, you can upvote peoples comments too!

There you are... damn ... comment above applies here. 😆

It takes people posting great content, and people steadily supporting that. And drive and time. Yes, some people buy their way in - that's ok too. 😊

!ENGAGE 25

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Love the initiative and the more that rise up through the ranks after joining, the better. I can tell you after being around for over 2.5 years and getting to Orca yesterday from a combination of posting, commenting and buying HIVE, it's worth it!

Theres a trail set up by @steevc called 10k minnows which is all about getting new accounts active and growing as well if you wanted to coordinate with him?

@HiveLift is chuckling... let's see what your daily posting & steady-regular engagement is like, cos that's what determines "likely to succeed". I'm just hurtling out the door (it being mid afternoon in Thailand) but back to this later.

The principle is simple: focus on an account (or 3 or 5) and stay with them till they are able to help someone else. So often votes on newbies who then give up don't contribute to the community as a whole, log term. It's a fine line, and we actually need to do both. But if every one of us chose 1 or 2 "likely to succeed and well n the way" people, we'd make a really SOLID impact over time.

OK... gotta hit the road... later...

Hello there !

Such a great idea ! I need to make my list too 😃!

I also like doing weekly curation and giving some portion of the reward to the great authors selected. This way it highlights their blogs again (more interactions?) and also give them some "liquid" rewards.

The only "downside" is that the trail I am usually using with @hodlcommunity curation does not work on my own posts hehe. So I wished the reward would be greater on these 🗞 HODL Community Jewels 12 ✍️ Weekly Curation Post

It is a weekly post so does not need a lot of whale's HP but I did not attract them yet 😂

Cheers, I am off to making my List

PS: Is there a way to share your own list to someone else? (like on Twitter)

Congratulations @hivelift! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain and have been rewarded with new badge(s) :

Feedback from the October 1st Hive Power Up Day

Neat idea. I have been doing my @tenkminnows project for a while supporting smaller accounts. Having more people with bigger stakes in Hive is good for the platform as a whole. We need rewards to be spread better.

I have not been making use of lists yet, but I will consider it.

!BEER

Haha just saw your comment after I posted mine! I think you two can work on something as you have got similar ideals with growing accounts and we do need more people rising up. If we can inspire them to stay then it's going to serve everyone.

We need to nurture the good accounts to help them grow. I hate seeing good posts make so little. Part of this is down to people relying on auto votes sent to friends. @tenkminnows is automated, but my account is mostly manual.

Yeah definitely, there are good ones out there and we all know what it's like to have had good posts get nothing. I try to write helpful guides on how this place works and teach a few things but I wonder if it's worth having a community dedicated to helping beginners with an evergreen pinned post that has links to all relevant and useful info?

I'm sure I've seen one around somewhere but can't remember who set it up. It's called Hive Tutorials I think... 🤔

We need tutorials that are easy to find. I ought to make a note of them.

I need to redo my Havey's Guides series with the Hive nomenclature now - I used to link to all the chapters of it at the bottom which I think people found helpful but as I post quite often, those blogs get out of site pretty quickly and no-one will go hunting for it.

Hey @hivelift, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

Thanks very much. I really appreciate your support as I have began to extend my support to other hive newbies. 🙂🤗🤗

Excellent idea, I will create my own list as well

I think, we should have a common list ? i.e. Hive Dolphin Nursery List should be shared so that each of us can provide some support ?

The list are a simple means for people to create and maintain an almost personal auto vote system. One look at my delegated to list lets me know who is currently active, and who is not, and then I can adjust delegation. I have decided to leave the people on the list even when I end the delegation, if they were good enough at the time to get a delegation, then they are good enough to continue to help support.

Thank you for the mention, and mostly for helping spread the word of one usage of the list function on PeakD.
