RE: Harassing me is a bad marketing strategy for Blurt

in #hive5 months ago (edited)

Just a 2nd thought. All I think we need is the front ends to have a setting where we cannot see blacklisted users.

Users should be able to choose who they want to blacklist.

Let’s put this power in the hands of users when reasonably possible!

I think this is the most reasonable approach to our blurt issue and I will work towards it.

If you have any feedback about this idea I’m happy to hear it 😊

Definitely. The UX can be improved a lot more. This is especially so when you consider that Peakd is already THE BEST amongst all the available frontends here on Hive.

I mean... I have the feedback, lots of people do too, but in the end, only the devs have the power to go about creating/implementing said changes/improvements.

@peakd, got some feedback for you.

Really? Where should I look to see the feedback? Thanks for reaching out!

It's in the comment above, but perhaps I don't make the priority response list, anymore.

Peakd normally responds pretty quick, if you call them.

ahhhh you meant there is feedback for Peakd from me 🤣

Sorry I read it as you were saying Peakd has feedback FOR me...

I will chalk this up to me having delusions of grandeur LOL 😆

Nothing like a little megalomania to go with one's coffee in the mornings.
All day, really.

This comment is awesome lol

This tool exists, but it's global. The frontends are able to prevent a blacklisted account from being displayed, but only across the entire userbase.

Marky has been all but begged by me for that ability to choose who to blacklist, but he (and others) say I can just create my own bank and be just like Moammar Gaddafi... er, I mean lrn 2 code and make my own blacklist that works the way I want. Pharesim once planned on making such blacklists available, but IIRC correctly he changed his mind and didn't do it.

My goal was to make lists that people can subscribe to, but the native functionality was broken for so long, now I just don't want to get involved.

I appreciate you clarifying the matter. I can understand being done with something, especially something so thankless as preventing bad actors at succeeding in their schemes.

Thank you for all the comments. On this post. I am trying to answer these on my phone and it’s not going very well 😅

I’m going to try to get some sleep and respond to your comments tomorrow.

Thanks for all the feedback even if we do not agree on all the details here. Discussing these things with you is usually productive imo; you are passionate about this issue and so am I so I do appreciate the feedback!

I appreciate that you are considering my thoughts. Please do so at the length you find appropriate.

I depleted by VP following your and KillerG's conversation and am still trying to get back to where I can upvote interlocutors, so plz forgive my rude lack of encouragement of your thoughtful comment.

I have a lot of HP now so I go out of my way to upvote comments if people are engaging. It doesn't hurt my feelings if you don't upvote our convos but I do really like it when I get some extra HIVE for chatting 😄

I just think it's good manners to upvote people when I respond to their comments. I feel like my mom is frowning down at me for being rude if I don't.

The solution is to mute the user, including their comments and everything else related to the user you muted. If you no longer want to see a user on the network, you mute them, and your problem is solved. A blacklist isn't necessary for this. Modifying the protocol so that the MUTE command includes comments is sufficient.

Muting them still shows the activity.

This is not reasonable IMO because the UX is terrible with muting being the only solution.

We pay for front end development through the DHF. I do not think this is a crazy ask on my part.

It depends what front end you use. Many do make it invisible like hive.blog.

Huh. Is that why when I post an Odysee video, no one on Hive.blog can see my post at all, other than the title? I had people accusing me of farming tokens by posting empty blogs and farming autovotes. I about had a seizure.

If Hive.blog blacklists posts containing Odysee videos, that would explain it.

It looks like PeakD's mute feature works that way too. I am trying to understand the blacklist feature but need to read about it more. Task for a different day!

I think the activity is displayed if you select it and search for it.

But it’s on a front end. We are all using front ends right now!

I would think the goal of front ends, at this stage of the chain, is to improve UX.

Maybe we aren’t there yet? But I think we can get to a point where a ask like this is possible 🤷‍♂️

Either way, a little boy can dream... 😆

I do not think our current solutions are practical for new users that are normal non crypto people.

Dude, you worry too much. And you probably haven't even seen the Arcade Colony casino.
I bet 200 hot sauce on black and won. But I only got 1.74 Colony, which is about 0.00127706 Hive. The return on investment for that game must be in 3,000 years.

How is me advocating for a better UX experience worrying?
