Looking forward...

in #hive4 years ago

With all these changes that happened in a very short period of time it was super hard to not pay attention to all the drama and the nonsense that was going on.

These early days of HIVE were very important to weed out bad actors and move forward with a rediscovered enthusiasm, thus the overabundance of HIVE topics (which i hope will change over time).
Those that do not share the same ideals of decentralization as we do will most likely excuse themselves on their own and move on or stay on Justins blockchain now that they have options.

One of the great things about this split is that we lost most of our spammers and reward pool abusers. Almost all of them remained on Justins blockchain, many of them running witnesses. Even Haejin is back to farming Steem now that there is no one to stop his spam.
Pretty obvious if you ask me. Why would a spammer pick a chain where his spam will be countered instead of a chain where he can spam freely?

Circlejerkers like Dobartim, Flysky, Exyle, Coininstant, the Korean whales like Virus707... are gone for most part as well. Slowly but surely those that brought STEEM down in the past wont be here in the same capacity, or wont be at all, to do the same thing to HIVE.
I think thats a very exciting thing.
Sure you will always have some salty people that will try and retaliate against everything HIVE related or contrarians that used to be influential on Steem that will try to get attention by pretending to be a "voice of reason" (while lacking it completely), but those people will fade away quickly as well.

My point is that we are slowly entering a phase of or own discovery. Discovery of who we are now as a community, where we want to go with HIVE and what goals we should focus on.
Do we adjust our mission? Do we rebrand and move beyond the "social media" label into something more inclusive? What will be the first major addition to the network?

All of these questions will have to be asked.

My biggest fear, as i stated in my DAO post was that now that we have no central authority organizing development, that the efforts to complete tasks could potentially end up unfocused and inefficient.
Developers sitting down at the table, once the initial tasks related to the HF are done, and ironing out a roadmap is something i find to be of utmost importance.

Just because we do not have a central authority that doesnt mean that there shouldnt be unified and COORDINATED efforts to deliver major additions to the network.

You could say that a generally shared vision of what HIVE should become exists in the community conscience (what ever that might be) and all we need to do is put it into words.

Future looks bright...

Ill see ya.

BTW...Dont panic if HIVE goes through phases of volatility and drops lower. Price discovery is yet to happen and we only have 1 major exchange atm.

No wonder that our vote values feel larger than on Steem.

They are larger quite a bit i think.

Those circlejerkers are powering down and selling HIVE I guess, so we have this drop as well

I see that as them doing us a favor.
Im also powering down a bit. Ill sell this one last chunk of HIVE and stop there.
Im really hoping the price to dump a bit so i can buy into a Orca. This is imo the best chance we might get to go beyond our current minnow/dolphin/orca status.

A lot of them didn't get airdrop, so there's not much to sell.

People aligned with them, however, are different stories.

I believe it is very hard have any system without certain weaknesses one should remain vigilant of.

For example, when you mention that we have no concentrated "steering committee" here... one of my worries about decentralization (perhaps it's Achilles heel?) has always been that fine line between truly functional decentralization and a state of chaotic FRAGMENTATION where it becomes like putting 10 people in a boat, each with a paddle, and everyone paddles in their own direction at their own pace... while the boat goes nowhere.

But, time will till. As for the price of Hive (and Steem), it seems to me we shouldn't really make too many plans until the initial 13-week (respective) power-down periods have expired...

But yes, these are interesting times, and filled with potential!

Teamwork doesn't require a coach. Folks interested simply need to find a common goal. And don't be a puck hog. That's hockey talk.

lol. Puck hog?

Folks interested simply need to find a common goal.

Thats exactly what i said in this post.

A puck hog. Someone who thinks they can do everything themselves. Usually they got knocked on their ass and then blame everyone else on the team.

Oh i see. Yeah. I could have used it in my post. thx

Developers should not be "puck hogs" and think they can do everything themselves. They should work with the team and not blame others when they get knocked on their ass.

Thanks for the input. 😉

'Even Haejin is back to farming Steem now that there is no one to stop his spam.'

He's on Hive now also and already made his second post here.

Second? Hes making 10 a day on Steem.

Ill still look at it. His reign on Hive will be short if he starts what hes doing there.

i hope hive will resist the downfall coming ahead
