The News
Happy Friday and welcome to another #FollowFriday post. I have done these since joining this blockchain back in 2016 and have kept them up most weeks. It was originally about suggesting some people to follow, but I have expanded it to include some news and opinions to add value. There is always something happening on Hive and I will miss plenty, so I like to see others sharing news. I am also happy for others to use the hashtag to help build community links. There are plenty of cool creators here who deserve more followers and better rewards.

I am sure most people have noticed that $HIVE and other coins are not doing great right now. We are not far above the all time low from just after the fork from St--mit. The markets have changed massively since then and it ranks a lot lower now. We have a lot of work still to do in getting more people active here. I saw someone come back this week after many years away, so we should not give up on those who went dormant.
You may have heard that a Hive hardfork is due next month. Most of the changes will not be noticeable to normal users as they may be bug fixes or to provide functionality to those developing dapps. I did see mention here of a change to how votes work. This will mean that the value of your vote will not decrease if you vote several times in a day. Your voting mana will still decrease and I assume that once it is zero you will not be able to vote until it recharges. That takes five days from empty to full. This change was discussed two years ago. A benefit mentioned is that small accounts whose vote just takes posts over the dust threshold (about 2c) do not have to worry about falling below that. Feel free to correct me if I get any of this wrong.
There have been some posts recently about accountability for those who decide on where DHF (decentralised Hive fund) gets used and also for those who receive funds. Some projects are getting a lot of money, but it is a small group who get to decide who they are and the projects are not all giving feedback on what they did with the money. @blanchy created some polls on whether certain projects should continue to get funds, but those are not binding on anyone.
I have been hoping to see the Freechain documentary about how Hive came to be. @lordbutterfly has posted that it will be broadcast by a major network.
In a couple of weeks there is the HiveBeeCon in Kraków.
Friday Follows
- I just saw some posts from @hivehubs which seems to be a new initiative to fund Hive events that could onboard more people. They set a lot of conditions, so I would hope the funds get well spent.
- I enjoyed this post by @gooddream about his experiences of being a musician. That is a subject close to my heart. We have lots of musicians on Hive with a fair few professionals.
- @dbooster over in Japan just reached Orca rank. We have over 300 people at that level now.
- @detlev runs the Hive beer community and has hosted lots of Hivefest events. He also wrote something on staying anonymous online.
The Dog House
I have said this many times, but it may not be obvious to new Hive users. On Hive you have to work to get noticed as there is no algorithm that is going to push your posts at people. I am not picking on this guy, but it is a fairly typical example of someone who has gained an account, but is not reaching anyone. The only comment on these posts was an automated one. He is only following two people. He has made some comments, but they are too brief to really get attention. His posts do not really make much sense and at least one is in a community where it is likely to get muted as irrelevant.

I get that people want to earn here, but you cannot take it for granted. You have to add value that people will consider worthy of rewards. I always tell people to find users and communities that align with their interests so that Hive will be fun for them. If you have actual conversations in the comments then you can build connections. That is what I did from the start. Get to some Hive events too and if there is not one near you, then get organising! If you can get even a few people together then something may happen.
Hive gives us freedom, but that includes the freedom to fail.
The End
This post worked out quite long as I did actually save some links that I wanted to mention. I hope you find something of interest.
Tomorrow is #HPUD (Hive power up day), so if you can power up you can earn a badge from @hivebuzz. I plan to boost my HP by a nice amount. I will also be compiling the monthly #BritList. Please give dormant Brits a nudge to do something on Hive if they want to be included. I am still happy to help others compile lists of Hivers in their country or region.

Cheers for the mention. Got a few posts to view from it
There has been a lot going on. I was listening in to a big discussion on Discord just now. I only heard about it from a comment on the post. A lot of the witnesses and proposal owners on the call. We need that sort of open discussion going on. I'll look out for news of the next call and post about it.
Yeah I got in at the end . Well with the price on the floor something has to be changed .
Interesting voting excluding declining 🗳 will research more to see it voting at 100% value would be the same as say 50%.
I'm not sure it will make a massive difference to most of us. It may shift rewards distribution a little.
The vote changes are really nice, It's just simpler to understand now, The other change that might impact some users (for the better honestly) is how keys work.
For the most part it will simply stop users using higher ranked keys (say owner key) for signing transactions that only need active, No more fallback, transactions that require active can ONLY be signed with active, same for posting, owner etc.
Will result in better security in the long run.
I saw that mentioned on the Hivefest discussion. Also something about multi-sigs. We need good security, but Hive seems fairly good generally. Keychain helped. Not sure how quantum safe it is.
In some posts I get comments by people with low popularity (I guess they are new...?) which doesn't really fit with the things I write. These comments look like they've been written by AI after you copy-paste the post and ask for a quick comment to share, so the AI generate the comment for you, or something like that. I spot them immediately and don't vote them.
Maybe they are done with a good intention of engaging, but they juts don't feel human so you won't get my attention, sorry not sorry
Comments do need to be genuine to deserve a vote. I get some people will struggle with language and use tools to write the comment, but then they should say that. I see people who leave several comments in a minute, so they cannot be reading the posts. They will not get rich from what I give to most comments anyway. I just don't have time to check on everyone.
I know you are genuine of course :)

There's a live show on DHF spending on the official Hive Discord right now.
Ah! I've tuned in. Just seen something there about HW suspending operations. There's always breaking news, but I can't keep updating the post.
It's more about Value Plan, but still.
That's a hot topic.
#followfriday is a staple in my Hive reading. Thanks @steevc for keeping these posts coming!!
Cheers. I always hope that at least a few people get some benefit from my posts.
this market has been very different for alts since cash is not thar easy to get so things dont pump that easy anymore or at least not Hive, Im mostly focus in 2029 now that I have build up a schedule to stay active, it has taken me two years for where Im at but want to take it further, not easy for me as its hard for me to talk about crypto 🤷 been in Hive sometimed aint easy I guess and you need to work 3x times hard to get notice but if it aint hard I guess might not be worth? 🤔
As I have said, I always try to make Hive fun. If it was just work then it would not be worth all the effort. You can't rely on the big accounts noticing you, so have to build a following with everyone else, but it depends on what you are into. I don't have time to look at everything.

So, if one hits zero on the voting mana for an hour or two, then to wait for 5 days for the full recharge?
Zero to full takes that long now as well, but I doubt many people run it that low. I think each full vote uses 2%.
Thanks for doing these updates!! I'm a newbie, you gave me a shout out recently. I've had problems uploading and posting things the last few weeks but now everything seems to be working fine so I'm posting more and starting to understand more how it all works, but if anyone has any tips for a newbie that would be great x
Hive can be confusing, but I hope you are getting the hang of it. My main tip is to make it fun. Engage with people who share your interests.

BEER.The return proposal is eating many other proposals now, Keychain and hivewatchers are unfunded as of now
People have to vote as they see fit. Some will argue that too many projects get funded, but Keychain is an important one. HW say they have suspended their project.
Yeah suspended for no funding 😅 I agree Keychain is a must for hive
That's something to work on. Sure the return proposal is good, but if it's not managed the right way it break up other useful proposals like the Keychain one! That's bad!
The upcoming hardfork seems interesting, particularly with the possible changes to voting dynamics.
It's great to have the statistics and news every week; it's a tradition that shouldn't be lost.
It's almost been 10 years, which calls for a celebration.
I'm interested in seeing this movie was well. Even though we lived through it, I still have a feeling there are things that happened in the background that we don't know about.
