The News

On the prices front nothing much has changed. $HIVE and its legacy cousin have been tracking each other, but a gap is opening up now. I hope that widens.

Prices from @coingecko

I like to see people doing interesting things with Hive. At its heart a blockchain is just a decentralised database and can hold any sort of data. Most of the data on it will be posts, votes, financial transactions and game data, but it has been exploited for things that will not directly earn from it. One of those is @podping that distributes information on new podcast episodes. Now we have the idea of Zingit that would log when a user plays a music track. This is something like last.fm (formerly known as Audioscrobbler) that I have used for over 20 years. There are apps that can log when you play music online or locally so that you can get statistics on what you have listened to. It would be much better to have this in a more open form that does not depend on one company. Some people may be dubious about the value of this for Hive as it will make the blockchain bigger, but each play just needs to store a little bit of metadata about the song.

As I understand it each transaction requires some resource credits, but I am not sure if that is related to the size. I think the cost goes up when the system gets busy to deter some types of attack, but I do not know all the details. I am happy to be educated.

Friday Follows

  • @friendlymoose is building a list of Hive apps. There are far more than I can keep track of. We have had some sites for this, but I am not sure if they are kept up to date. It will be tricky with so many appearing lately.
  • @meno is a prolific app/dapp builder and has an idea for one a bit like Uber. I suspect that the legalities of running a ride service are more complex than the required software.
  • Another new app is @hiveinvite.com that can create 'cards' to allow people to create accounts. If you have enough resource credits you can claim account tokens. This service lets people use those instead of you having to set them up. It does require giving the service some access to your account, so needs some care.
  • @louis88 has been doing in-depth security audits on various Hive sites. That is a skilled job that takes time and may not pay much, if anything. He was disappointed by the response he got from one project who did not seem to want his help. I hope they fix their site anyway.
  • @giampaolo19 is back with some fun drumbeats. I am not sure how many professional musicians we have on Hive, but it ought to be more. We need to show our appreciation and that can just be comments.
  • @demotruk let an 'AI' loose to analyse some Hive data and it highlighted that new users are less likely to stick around if they do not get any votes early on. If you see people on the new posts feed with a reputation of 25 then they are probably new and will appreciate some feedback. Of course we need to ought to check that they are genuine, but you can start with a small vote. If they try to cheat the system then their reputation is likely to drop below that start point. What we do not want is genuine people being put off using Hive.

The Dog House

This is one I have mentioned before, but we have to keep warning people about fraudsters. I was asking on the @peakd Discord about an issue with voting trails (great feature!) and some random account popped up trying to direct me to another channel. That should be a red flag as I was already in the support channel. They will probably try to get you to expose your keys to steal your crypto, so do not fall for it. It was good to see that this user was almost immediately banned and I assume that was some automated process. Other channels may not have that and it can be hard to deal with when almost anyone can join a channel. Anyway, @yozen dealt with my query. I just needed to adjust a setting and then everything worked.

The End

I have always said that I lay no claim to the #followfriday tag and am happy for others to use it. There is only so much I can find and read on Hive so I will miss plenty. Discovery can be tricky here so it is up to each of us to help others find cool posts and accounts.

That said, I can be pretty active here, but then I enjoy the community even when I am not making that much. I have always seen Hive as having value for anyone who has something to share and so I want it to grow. I really do not mind if that means I make less as I have done pretty well. We need quality content to attract a wider audience.

Enjoy your weekend and Hive five!

Thanks for mentioning my blog!
Whoever has any additions to the list... just let me know in the comments of my blog.

It is good to see all these new projects. We need to get more developers interested in Hive.

!BEER

Hey @friendlymoose, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

We love your support by voting @detlev.witness on HIVE .

A good round of updates to finish off the week. I haven't been around much this week so it is always handy to get a big insight from you. I will spend my evening diving into hive more and playing catchup.

Have a good weekend.

There is a lot going on. I try to share interesting posts too.

Enjoy your weekend too.

I've been playing around with scammers on Discord and it appears that they have some kind of bot that triggers as soon as they see a question mark. It seems if you leave that off sometimes you can avoid calling them.

I think they hang around support channels. Maybe projects should be using Hive chat instead.

HIVE’s rise vs LEO’s plunge, crypto dance.

At least the prices are stable... It's better than it keep dropping.

The glass is half full :/

It could be worse. I just hope it doesn't drop much more. An improvement would boost confidence, but that's up to the markets.

For now if it at least keeps at $0,06 we can survive some more. Dropping more than it, would be very risky.

excelente resumen semanal. Me gusta mucho esta iniciativa de Follow Friday porque nos ayuda a descubrir nuevos usuarios y proyectos interesantes en Hive.. gracias por compartir!

Excellent weekly summary. I really like this Follow Friday initiative because it helps us discover new users and interesting projects on Hive. Thanks for sharing

That's the idea! :)

Update: @steevc, I paid out 29.482 HIVE and 0.000 HBD to reward 11 comments in this discussion thread.

It is interesting to see creative applications of blockchain technology that extend past just regular financial transactions.

I didn't followed Hive since last six to eight months, but it is gone too much down 👇
I still believe I will gooooo up and up over all others.

The price is what it is and due to various factors. We can play a part in it going up if we get more activity here.
