Follow Friday: Who went?

The News

We still have the crazy situation of the legacy coin riding higher, but at least $HIVE is up. We are still a way off where we were even at the start of this year, but anything to boost confidence ought to be good.

Prices from @coingecko

Last week was @hivefest in Barcelona and I have seen hardly any reports on it apart from @jza, @demotruk and @sk1920. From the very few photos I saw it seems we had even less people than last time, but I did spot a few familiar faces. This is probably a reflection of people being down about the price, but then there is so much going on these days. I thought the plan was to have Hivers connecting in from around the world, but I heard little about that.

I have been to four of these big events and they have got smaller. My first in Lisbon had a huge crowd, but a lot of those people are not around these days. We need to get that enthusiasm going again.

Friday Follows

  • @rustedwax is a project by @skiptvads to create a mobile app for @scrobble.life. This will allow more people to log the music and other content they enjoy. I am mostly at my PC so I use the browser extension and have logged nearly 3000 tunes.
  • @chris-uk marked 7 years on Hive. I am sure many others are celebrating a lot of years here with some of us into our eleventh!
  • @jongolson used to do a podcast about this blockchain with @taskmaster4450. That ended a while ago, but he just did a little chat on @threespeak. I was contemplating restarting my old podcast and it looks like that platform should support podcast feeds. I tried it in Pocket Casts, but had some issues downloading episodes. Maybe @meno or someone else on the team knows more about this.
  • @buttcoins has made use of a DHF fund for AI tools to create BASECAMP that gives you some nice visual indications of the activity of Hive accounts. It may help in finding people to support or engage with. It is not publicly available yet, but looks great.

Hive in Meatspace

There is a meetup in London next month. Not everyone can fly to big events, but we can organise local ones to get people together. I have done a few of those myself.

The End

I had a little holiday recently that gave me the opportunity to write lots of posts about places we visited. @worldmappin gives us a way to put those on the map so others can see what is around. I logged a few National Trust properties. @nicklewis has his own project to log churches. We can use tags to build collections like this that make up a useful resource.

One of the wonders of Hive is that anyone can build something here. That can be an app or a community depending on your skills. What matters is that you are creating something that has use for others. In this world of AI we need things to connect people.

Hive five!

That's why we - at the HiveFest - agreed we need to organise next one in Poland, Silesia, where the most Hive users within 100 km range are located. Also you should check @hivebeecon where we were able to gather 100 people at one point.

That sounds like a natural place to do it. We have had a few other large events as it does not have to be under the Hivefest banner. We need more hubs of Hivers around the world. We used to have a lot more in London.

My last Hivefest was in Lisbon too. I've been to a few other meetups around the UK and looking forward to next month's London meetup.
Hopefully I'll see you there.

I think there is still a good community, but money may be tight. When the price was much higher you could pay for the trip with it. Hope to see you next month.

A lot has happened in the last few years. Rising prices for everything is going to change how people spend money on discretionary things.
War is a terrible waste of resources and affect everyone especially oil wars.

The community is still here. 👍

Thank you very much for the mention. I should try scrobbling!

I need to avoid getting too competitive on the listener chart. Just need to enjoy the music.

BTW I have been trying to play some keyboard, Musora have lessons for that as well as the drums. I had some piano lessons years ago, but need a refresher.

Musora is something I’d like to check out.

do you know anything about playing piano?

Hey @shanibeer - was that a question for @steevc or me? I’ve only ever had lessons for guitar when I was early twenties. My grandad taught me keyboard when I was even younger and beyond that I’ve been teaching myself, working out popular songs or making stuff up.

I’ve been fascinated but chords for years and learn them.

A proper course would still be worth it, in order to play properly.

How about you?

I was going to ask you about the 17th, what time are you expecting people?

Both of you :) I know you're both into music so I thought you might be good to talk to. Let me check my trains for 17th, I was thinking of combining a reminder with the HPUD post.

OK cool, feel free to ask anything!

I did an evening class in piano many years ago, but I don't know if there are still music lessons there. I did some others on guitar. These days there's loads of free lessons on Youtube. I would like to learn more in this area, but I already paid for Musora so I can use that.

They do trial memberships every so often. There is so much material on there and it's good quality.

I might be tempted

Thanks for the mention.

I didn't hear anything about Hivefest either just a little build-up, but nothing from the actual event itself. I can remember the VR Hivefest; I still think that is something Hive should explore again for those unable to travel. But yes, more local meets should happen too :)

Virtual meetups could be good too. The Hive Thrive shows on Discord are fun as a lot of people chat in the channel.

I worry about people’s excitement for many things now, sad that Hive fest has been a bit lacking this time round. Let’s make the local meet-ups something to enjoy!

That's really sad about HiveFest. I understand, but it still doesn't make it any less depressing.

Well I hope it was still fun for those who went. We need to keep the community spirit going.

Hive is welcoming builders with communities to support them. This is one of our biggest strengths.

Got to support those builders if we want them to do more.

This post is really helpful for beginners like us, as it gives proper guidance and a clear understanding of many things. Discussions like this are truly beneficial for everyone, right?

We should always be talking about Hive and how to make it better. There are no rules here, but people will enforce behaviours they approve of. It is up to you to make it a success.

Mobile app for any project seems to be a good strategy because the use of mobile only increases...

at least $HIVE is up.

Closer to the 6 cents that once were the floor.

Update: @steevc, I paid out 17.130 HIVE and 0.000 HBD to reward 17 comments in this discussion thread.

I think the decline in attendance at Hive events is probably more concerning than the short-term price movements. Price may affect people's enthusiasm.

As I said, I think they are related. I've paid for my tickets with HBD before, but that would be harder now.

Buenos números ..👆👍

Lots of great new apps like Hivesuite.app ….

I don't get around to trying them all, but it's cool to have all these options.
