I honestly don't know what to make of it. It is all very strange.

Take away someones free money, they get mad.
It's not free! We pay for it!

I think this is all way too complicated for a single solution
It's rather simple actually.
Well I personally have had a bad experience giving people things for free.
It has usually ended up being bad for me and the person receiving the free thing.
Almost everyone I know has gone through the same thing at least once in their life.
