It has been a while since the last announcement, but we haven't been chilling on the surf right here in RR. Au contraire! Time has come to announce the Hotel, first speakers and availability of the HiveFest tickets:
Hivefest Hotel: Rosarito Beach Hotel & Spa
This year, we will all stay together in a resort hotel on the Californian coast. The location is Rosarito Beach Hotel (RBH).
We would like to request that everyone going to Hivefest stays at RBH because it is right in the heart of the tourist area, and many of the Hivefest events are either at the resort or nearby. This will make it easier on transport arrangements plus we got great hotel rates. We are confident that the rates we secured are so good that it won't be possible to find better prices anywhere else in the area (use bookingcode HIVEFEST! Finally, almost all the rooms have ocean views, and you will see some great Californian sunsets with your margaritas 🍹!
The Rosarito Beach Hotel is situated on the Baja Californian coast. It is a large resort with ample pools, jacuzzis, bars, private beach access, restaurants, art shops. Did we mention the HiveFest activities are either at the resort or nearby.

Hivefest Early Bird Tickets - now available:
HiveFest 2023 early bird tickets are now available! Here is what is included in the ticket price:
- All transport to and from Tijuana and San Diego airports on the 22nd & 27th of September
- Event and two conference days plus catering

The average standard ticket cost is $700, discounted to $485 thanks to a generous subsidy by (thank you!) @valueplan!
⚠️ The ticket prices will increase each month as we get closer to the event. By 1st September, a standard ticket will cost $900, so securing your ticket as early as possible is encouraged.

Travel and Logistics
If you arrive at San Diego Airport on 22nd September, we will meet you at the airport and put buses on from there, direct to Rosarito Beach Hotel. The buses will likely be stopped at the border, and bags will be put through a metal detector. Border crossers will likely have to pay between 22 and 28 USD in border fees when crossing by bus.
If you arrive at Tijuana Airport on 22nd September, we will meet you there and put you on minibusses and cars from there directly to Rosarito Beach Hotel.

After Hivefest: Mexican Chill
Since this is @theycallmedan's home territory, he and @starkerz will be staying on after Hivefest and putting on some non-Hivefest activities for the 3-4 days that follow.
Pre-Hivefest: Leo Day
The registration and opening drinks are scheduled for the 22nd in the evening. For the early arrivers, @leofinance will host a Leo Day. There will be some round tables, a couple of speakers, and some fun activities. If you arrive early on the 22nd, join them!
Volunteering to Help
If you want to get involved in helping out with any aspects of the event, please reach out to @eddiespino separately.
I won't be able to make it this year due to a conflict in dates (I'm not crying, no, I'm not), but as always, it will be a spectacular event and I wish everyone who is going an amazing time!
(Might exclusively eat Mexican food during HiveFest so I can deal better with the FOMO.)

And it will be even more expensive over time. Even $900 USD on 2023.09.01. Who can afford these ticket prices? Not to mention traveling to Mexico. Most people do not even earn these amounts in an entire month.
Hivefest is an industry conference. Tickets for such events usually cost hundreds, or even upwards of $1000 per person. An early bird ticket to Devcon this year for example costs €600, with a normal ticket costing €700. Below is the pricing for Web Summit 2023.
Large events that can get all the people involved in developing Hive, its businesses and ecosystem, require facilities and it requires bringing those people in from around the world. It's inevitably going to cost a lot of money.
Perhaps it is possible to make a big event similar to Hivefest on the cheap. Hive is an open system, if anyone believes that they can organize such a thing, or turn one of the existing meetups into a bigger scale event, nobody is stopping them from trying and proving that it's possible. They may even be able to get funding from the DHF, with sufficient support.
Of course these prices are not that expensive for developers, for programmers, nor for businessmen. They have much above the average income, not something like $200 USD per month, as a pension-like income, which is below even the minimum wage in Hungary.
This all depends on where in the world one lives though x)
My salary is 2488 usd a month after taxes.
But my bills are 1463 usd a month.

This is also true. Your country, your occupation, your circumstances (owned house, rent, something else, your consuming habits). There can be huge differences even in the same country.

There will be some tickets that can be earned. And I believe there is (and always has been) a fund with the aim of partially reimbursing travel expenses to Hivefest for those who are in financial difficulty.
And finally, that's why HiveFest is touring the world. To become more convenient for Hivians in different corners of the world to join.

That's such a beautiful location and resort for everyone who wants to meet hivers IRL as well as create some memories that will last forever. Too bad it's way too far and expensive to make it to that part of the globe!

Who will fly from Berlin /Frankfurt on the 22nd (21st)? Probably to San Diego. It looks like it's cheaper than Tijuana airport.
