We started putting the deck in the old trailer I'm refurbishing to help in the move to the homestead.

in #homestead3 years ago

I located a 10-foot small trailer that hadn't been used in about 20 years. The deck was rotted out of it and the tires were ruined, the thing was a rusty Heap. But it was free and I needed a small trailer. So I bartered new rims and tires, we scraped and sanded the entire thing, did rust converting primer, and then went to normal primer on the structural parts.

We started putting the cross members and the decking in today. This is what it look like initially this morning.

Although we used rust converting primer on the entire trailer, we only applied the gray primer where the wood is going to mount. This was just a speed things up to try to beat the cold weather, and we almost made it, LOL!

We use the trailer itself the hold the wood, while we trimmed it to length:

It's a pretty good saw platform!

Here we added the wood to the ribs, so that we can fasten the deck down to that wood.

We just screwed the rib mounted wood in through the angle iron this work really well!

Here the deck is in place except for the two outer pieces that will have to be ripped on the table saw.

The five quarter decking lumber that I use was stacked on the ground; so I'll have to pressure wash it, before I can use the wood stain/sealer.

I'll need to add another box of screws the secure the deck properly while my friend rips the deck pieces still to go in. We will rewire this with a LED lighting kit. Then we'll spray Prime the whole machine and get it painted in the spring.

Since it sat for 20 years, I will replace both wheel bearings also. Then we'll start using this trailer which I've named Rusty, for the movement of materials to the homestead! This should speed things up a lot, with this added 10 by 5 foot deck space.

Well done 👍

It is going to come in very useful here; first for moving tools, and then for moving us!
