West of Steps - chrysanthemum color
On Friday morning I was up early and got the mess in the kitchen cleaned up. Then I prepped all the windows we’d be washing when my window lady arrived at 8AM. We started on the second floor and got 6 windows done, all the big ones. I still have 5 small ones to do on my own.
MacIntosh - comfrey is happy
We moved to the first floor and finished the last one in the office, then onto my bedroom and we did the 2 double hung in there. The awning window in there will be done on Saturday.
From there we went to the living room and got the 2 biggest ones done and 1 of the smaller ones. That leaves 12 windows that must be washed from the outside and 3 smaller double hung in the living room. We’ll get the 12 outside ones done on Saturday but I will probably have to do the double hungs.
My helper friend had arrived just after 8AM and he went out and started cleaning out the Big garden. He got the tomato poles out and then started pulling up all the dead and frosted stuff.
There’s celery on the left, 2 horehound in back and feverfew behind it. It had cosmos, tomatoes and peppers.
Cleaned out
The horehounds in front, feverfew behind, more celery on the right, hollyhocks left of the celery.
Horehounds at bottom and center, feverfew center right, and 2 Canterbury bells behind the feverfew
The celery on the bottom, Walla onions center left, then Canterbury bells, and feverfew on left. Hollyhocks in center. There had been artichokes down to the back.
This had been the lima beans I never got harvested. Parsley is at the end.
The woodchuck hole in the middle of the comfrey bed. I need to put cat food down there. That’s worked well to get rid of them elsewhere.
The snapdragons next to the comfrey are doing very well. But I doubt they will survive the winter.
Horseradish in the northeast corner
Parsnips - 2 rows along the north end
The Lacinato kale the woodchuck had left
The parsley ready to harvest
Saturday I will be doing windows. Sunday is a road trip to be leaf peepers in rural eastern New York with a friend. Next week I MUST get the garlic planted and finish cleaning up the Big garden, and mulch the places there that need it.
Color along the driveway
Once that’s done, I can start on the Fence gardens or the rosebed. They all need work. I should make a quick pass through the New Herb garden and pull weeds. I’m really trying to get as many gardens ready for winter as I can so there will be less I have to deal with next spring.
But I also have to finish the windows and change over the winter clothes from summer ones. October is always a very busy month here.
Very busy with long lists of things to be done! The autumn colours are looking great! Need more sunshine!
