I had finally finished my last year’s plant notes while at my mom’s last weekend. I have to return there this weekend, so I went out to record what is happening in the gardens this year.
I started in the New Herb garden and in Row 1 I found the woad doing really well, above. Several other plants had tiny green leaves at their bases and a few like the single surviving thyme, tansy and hyssop, had lots of leaves all over them.
In the West garden, where I had found the first daffodil buds a while back, one of them will probably open on Friday when I am gone.
In the West Shed garden I found 2 Chiondoxa forbsii flowering. I had planted them from the last Smith College Bulb Show sale a couple years back. I thought they’d died but I found several of them around the gardens.
I didn’t get all the gardens done, just about ½ of them. Next week it’s supposed to be warm so I hope I can finish the notes then and get some garden work done.
I need to get out walking and see if anything is coming up yet here in Wyoming. It's so much later than everyone else's spring. I can get jealous at times knowing that everyone else is seeing daffodils already and we're just seeing the first shoots (if we're lucky.)
If it's any consolation, I have NEVER in 37 years, had daffodils in March....This is bizarre for here....
Wow. Had to reacquaint myself with your general location.
I lived in Southern England for a number of years saw daffodils as early as mid Jan one year, mid April another... but Feb/Mar were more normal.
The weather has been so unpredictable. One day cold next day warmer then usual. My daffodils are coming up like crazy already, not blooming but lots of green. Can't wait til they start to bloom. I too find it early even for the daffs.
House looks great!!
This one probably opened today after I'd left for the weekend, so I will miss it. It is th first one...
