New Herb garden in the rain
On Monday morning I was up at 6AM and got the poor ‘dying’ cat fed so he’d survive until suppertime. I got my post up and worked on my list for the day, then got ready to go to exercise class early.
I had felt okay after all Saturday’s work, on Sunday, so because it was to rain, I arranged to go to class on Monday. But 10 minutes into the class, it hit. I call it “the day after, the day after”. Sometimes the effects of overdoing don’t hit until 2 days later, and that was the case on Monday. I managed to mostly make it through class and was glad I had a couple hours to rest before going with my #1 intern to do errands and shopping.

She arrived just before noon and I had gotten ready so we headed out south first. Oddly enough, my food co-op did not have organic cabbages so finishing there; we headed to another store that sometimes has organic stuff. And they had organic cabbages! So I got the carrots and a batata for the corned beef and cabbage dinner and we headed north to do errands.
Every year I plant these two and I managed to forget to order seeds this year. I prefer the marine blue lobelia, but the mix is all they had at the farmer’s co-op.
Next we spent far too much time at the bank to deal with the safe deposit box, and ended up closing the account. From there we went and did the bulk of our shopping and headed home.
New West garden, crocus buds in the rain
The contractor was there when I got there as the timer for the washer had been delivered before I left and I’d let him know. But I couldn’t stay to see how it worked as we had to go to my current bank to open a new safe deposit box.
We finally got home at 4:15PM and the contractor said the washer had run just fine. Then we went to look at the broken bulkhead, as I think that’s the next job he will tackle.
South garden, daffodil buds
I’d picked up something for supper at the co-op so I heated that up and watched the movie, Prefontaine, about a runner who went to the Olympics the year the Israelis were shot.
I called my helper friend but he, and his wife, were really sick with a bad chest cold so he wouldn’t be coming. I called another friend who had been scheduled for neck surgery to see how he was doing. I hope to have my #1 intern bring me to see him at the end of the week. I’m bringing him the beef bone stock I made to help his recovery.
On Tuesday I have lots of laundry to do, a disaster of a kitchen to clean up, seedlings to tend, estate stuff to work on until it warms up enough at noon.
My #2 intern is coming and she’s going to climb under the azalea and pull out the grass and weeds and all the leaves. This hasn’t been cleaned out in a couple years. I won’t be much help, so I plan to work around the corner cleaning up the last iris area in the New South garden. It’s to be a sunny day in the mid 50’sF.

So, you had rain and fog! Ni nite snow! That’s good! The flowers are coming out, spring has arrived.
It always hit me the following day whenever I did too much physical work. I would go numb the next day. Hope your helpers would recover fast. You watched lots of old movies!

Is it true that sometimes, when you plant a seed, it stops growing at some point because it has gotten to the extent which it can grow and it no longer produces crops
Mostly seeds should got through their whole life cycle. if they do not, it's because something vital is missing: nutrients, sun, water, good soil, enough room, etc.

Pouring, driving rains here.
I am thrilled to get a few nice days to get beds ready.
Seeds are indoors, turning into seedlings, for now.
Outside must be very cold as a result of the rain.
The crocus is flowering so nicely.
