High-colostrum miracle milk to add to our supply of on-hand animal husbandry must haves!
For those of you who do not know, the earliest milk that a mother produces for her young is some amazing stuff. When an animal like this is first born, it goes through the greatest environment change of its life. Instead of being inside the womb of its mother, with a consistent temperature, a dark and wet surrounding, and receiving nourishment and oxygen from its mother, it is now in the dry, bright world, with fluctuating temperatures where it has to breathe and drink for itself.
At this crucial point in the young mammals life, this colostrum plays a crucial role in helping the baby survive. The wonders of colostrum are many, but it is worth pointing out that it is high in immune cells and antibodies. For this reason, it can be an incredible supply to have on hand. While artificial and dehydrated forms do exist, there is nothing like the real thing.
GETTING A SUPPLY OT KEEP ON HAND
The @little-peppers have milked some goats before, but this was the first time for @papa-pepper. Once we had made sure to give our newborn bucking "King" a good opportunity to get as much colostrum as he needed right away, we decided to milk out a bit of the first day colostrum to keep in the freezer. When animals get sick or have issues, a good shot of colostrum can bounce them back into full health sometimes like nothing else.
Today we plan on building a milking stand. We would have build one ahead of time, but we didn't even know that Daisy had been bred before we picked her up. While milking her on the ground may be slightly more difficult, it's not that bad of a task.
It is really exciting for us to have milked our goat already. Originally, we had thought that this event would be months off. It was a delightful surprise, and we have adjusted quickly. The high colostrum milk is much yellower than regular milk too. In some countries, people even make special cheeses out of it or use it for human consumption. We will show you our milking stand once we get it, but just wanted to share this exciting news with you.
So far King is still doing great. He likes to wag his tail a lot and seems to be a happy little guy. We also have some interesting news about Crocket, our young buck, but we've got some things to do with him before we make a post about that. Also, although we've milked more, you can see a bit of it in the proof photo below.
When we milk her for human consumption we will take more time and milk a larger amount, but we were not trying to drain out a large amount of her colostrum the first day. We want to give King the best chance of survival and allowing him to get all of the benefits of the colostrum that he can will help.

I used to make it with the kids. It's hard to find milk [cow or goat] without preservatives in the store. They loved watching the milk separate, then straining and stretching, but the didn't like the waiting. ;-)
Since the kit contains biological stuff, it was hard to get into Canada, but this one was allowed across the border. I'm pretty sure that this was the source - it had a very kid friendly instruction book. http://www.cheesemaking.com/

@papa-pepper can still keep the goat, but I in Indonesia can not keep goats, all my camping all stolen to one cage, the incident three months ago, really my dear goat
She's very calm, you're lucky to have such a good natured Nanny. I can remember being told once that you know your goat is pregnant, when it has a kid. AHA! Good luck in all you do @papa-pepper.

Awesome! Are you planning on milking her for your family?
If so, you can start separating her baby from her at night at about 3 weeks, milking in the morning, and then putting him back with her for the day. It is amazing, but the mother can actually hold back milk for him. You can feel it, there is definitely still milk in there, but you can't get it out unless she allows it.

This is our first pregnant doe--just got her not too long ago. We're still waiting for her to kid--she's close! This is also our first time having an animal be born on our homestead and(hopefully) our first time milking a animal, so there's a LOT that we're going to be learning in very short order. Glad to have read this in time before she kids!

Have you tasted the colostrum? I heard it has a terrible taste, but full of vitamins and immune materials. Better for goat kids :))) I love goat milk and cheese, they are much healthier than cow milk and dairy.
We are saving it for animals in the future if we need it. We have not tried any.

And I think that is a big part of success when it comes to farming - thinking ahead and planning for all sort of contingencies.

For me, goats milk is only tasty when super cold! It is great for the health and easier to digest than cow's milk.

I like the idea of storing colostrum for future use! I have a question though- being a mom who breastfed her babies I was told that pumped breastmilk that is stored in the freezer will lose its probiotic qualities. Would it effect the other positive attributes in the milk/colostrum too?

i still remember the first time i milk a goat ( i don't do that often still :P )! Also i wanna add that this milk is out of the world. if someone is used to the sugary and industrial ones that taste well like sugar or water and then taste this or use it inside sweets and pies a new world will be unlocked!
When a child is born mother produces a thick yellow milk which supports the child throughout its life and it is true for both human and animals.
Goat milk is best known medicine for curing Dengue also. happy to know that both mother and child are doing fine. its definitely a second birth for a mother very crucial time.
