This is a kind of stupid quote, because it is impossible to keep your face towards the sunshine. Of course, you can try, but looking at the sun and the sunshine is kind of tiring, so you don't want to do that. But, that is not what the quote is about. What is it about?

It is about looking in the direction of what is positive and what is good. The sun is equivalent to warmth, joy, and strength, while the shadows are a symbol of darkness, despair, and hopelessness. So, by looking in the direction of sunshine, it is a decision you make which makes you look at what is good in life and look in hope towards the future. Instead of being grumpy about the people who have been cruel to you and unrighteous stuff that has happened in your life, you can decide to look toward the sunshine and what is good. Maybe you got a bad grade by a teacher that ruined your chances. That wasn't fair, but don't look at it and do not let it turn you into a victim. Look at the sunshine, and focus on the good things, because they will take you further and in the right direction.
I have seen this over and over again in my own life, and I see it in the people surrounding me. When you argue with someone, it is so easy to because a victim and you want to look at the shadows and stay in the shadow. But, it will not take you further. You need to look in the direction of the sunshine, where there is light, hope, warmth, and where the solutions are found.
