I’m not against smartphones, but I decided to stay away from them for a while. So I switched to this one – a Nokia 105.

the phone’s pretty naft. Now I can’t really do much apart from call and text. But I made the switch anyway, and here’s why…
I met a good friend of mine the other day… after a few months actually. And in the vaguely interesting 20 minute conversation he had, he just looked at me twice. The rest of the time, we were still engaged in quite a meaningful conversation while he typed something on his phone. So depending on the person you are, you would develop some hatred towards either the phone or your friend. I’m still good friends with him. It’s the phone that I had to blame.
You may not have noticed, but they’re taking over our lives. Smartphones, yes. All that stuff in the entire Terminator series – it’s all true!
The machines have taken over! But they’re even more clever than we thought in the 90s. They’re not cyborgs in human form – they’re smartphones. Those pretty looking things that go with you everywhere – where you can be in touch with your ‘friends’ all the time, watch videos, movies, and if you run out of ideas to waste your life you can always download unlimited ways to do so from the app store.
People don’t talk to each other nowadays. They just ‘text’. I know kids who text their parents from upstairs that they won’t be coming down for dinner, or boy and girlfriend texting their friends while sitting in a park together. Smartphones have made texting easier. On the phone I’ve got texting is such a pain, I would rather just call people or speak to them personally if they’re around.
Anyway, I know I’m going to get comments below saying smartphones are useful and do a lot of good stuff, etc. And I am aware, but I’d rather keep my life simple and use a dumbphone to just speak to people when I need to. I’m trying to simplify my life and use my time instead for studying, sports, exercising, going out, music, learning new skills and spending time with friends. And if you do meditation, there’s always a temptation to see if you have some ‘unread what’s app messages’ or ‘notifications on facebook’ or ‘important emails to check’.
Naa, screw the phone before it screws my life. I’m done with it! Although I’ve only been off for 3 days lol, and let’s see how long I last… but I do feel a lot more free. Yes – I smell FREEDOM!
That’s not me. I’m a monk. That’s just some lady off the internet. Just showing you how I feel
And oh yeah, trust me and try it just for one day and you’ll feel the difference. Let me know what you think below!
