The Rock Garden, Chandigarh , India

We the humans never stop at any moment, we have a tendency to keep growing and to unearth new facts as well as we always improve what we had and gain new stuff as well. In the field of creativity, a number of human minds have stunned a lot more of the same species when they brought up their pieces of works which were mind-blowingly amazing.

Well, today I've brought one of the countless masterpieces that are brought to life by talented heads.

So there was a man namely Nek Chand Saini who by profession was a government official and did something unique in his spare time, he started a garden in the year of 1957 which is completely built of industrial and home waste and discarded items and today spread over an area which exceeds 16 hectares.

Well, the garden he built was not an ordinary garden but a sculpture garden which have been crafted by waste materials. The garden is situated near the Sukhna Lake because of which the garden consists of man-made interlinked waterfalls.

In his free time, Nek Chand visited several demolition sites and picked up waste materials and recycled them and in the vision of his own with which he wanted to see his kingdom look like, he selected a gorge in a forest near Sukhna Lake for his work. The gorge had been designated as a land conservancy, a forest buffer established in 1902 that nothing could be built on. Chand’s work was illegal, but he was able to hide it for 18 years before it was discovered by the authorities in 1975. But by the time it was discovered, the garden had grown into a 5 Hectare complex of interlinked courtyards, each filled with hundreds of pottery-covered concrete sculptures of dancers, musicians, and animals.

The kingdom of Chand was in the danger of getting demolished but his works were hugely appreciated by people and eventually got the favor of the public's opinion and managed to save his works.

Finally in the year of 1976, the park was inaugurated as a public space. Nek Chand was given a title ("Sub-Divisional Engineer, Rock Garden") with a salary and 50 laborers so that he could work full-time.

Today too, The Rock Garden is still made out of recycled materials. With the government’s help, Chand was able to set up collection centers around the city for waste, especially rags and broken ceramics.

Over 5,000 people visit the amazing masterpieces which are made from stuff that we simply throw away !

The Rock Garden, Chandigarh is a very good example of a lot of things but to sum up we can bring out that if a person is dedicated towards his/her passion and can express it in some way then the whole world will acknowledge it one day and in Chand's case it has happened as well, to quote a reason, 12 million visitors since its inception, collection centers have been installed around the city for waste, especially rags and broken ceramics.

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK, WHAT WOULD YOU HAD DONE IF YOU WERE IN CHAND'S PLACE AND DO YOU HAVE SUCH AN PASSION FOR WHICH YOU CAN GO AGAINST THE LAWS AND TURN THEM IN YOUR FAVOUR ??
