Live in the tropics to the sub-tropics
Locusts live in the tropics to the sub-tropics. Most are green, but some are brown and yellow. Locusts are also known by the names of locusts, congcorang, walang kekek, walang kadung, and jadadak. There are so many species of locust mantis. The species that most live in Indonesia is Hierodula vitrea.
Belalang sembah hidup di daerah tropis sampai sub tropis. Kebanyakan berwarna hijau, namun ada pula yang berwarna cokelat dan kuning. Belalang sembah juga dikenal dengan nama belalang sentadu, congcorang, walang kekek, walang kadung, dan mentadak. Ada banyak sekali spesies belalang sembah. Spesies yang paling banyak hidup di Indonesia adalah Hierodula vitrea.
Adult female mantis can lay up to 300 eggs. The eggs are placed in a nest called ooteka. Ooteka is a nest made of material removed from its mother's body. Ooteka which initially shaped white foam that will harden and form small spaces in it. The eggs of the grasshopper are protected from the heat and rain in these ooteka until the time of hatching.
Belalang sembah betina dewasa dapat bertelur sampai 300 butir. Telur itu diletakkan dalam sarang yang disebut ooteka. Ooteka adalah sarang yang dibuat dari bahan yang dikeluarkan dari tubuh induk betinanya. Ooteka yang awalnya berbentuk buih putih itu akan mengeras dan membentuk ruang-ruang kecil di dalamnya. Telur-telur belalang sembah terlindungi dari panas dan hujan di dalam ooteka ini sampai saatnya menetas.
Metamorphosis is not perfect
Like other insects, the worship mantis also morphed. The newly hatched hatchlings of eggs are shaped like small shrimp. They break through the bottom of the ooteka and hang upside down on thin threads. His body is protected by a thin membrane. After a while, this thin membrane is torn apart. From it came the children of locusts of worship that resembled an adult grasshopper. Metamorphosis of the worship mantis includes imperfect mammorphosis because of its shape as a child and adult almost the same. Distinguish the butterflies that originally form a caterpillar then become a cocoon.
Seperti serangga lainnya, belalang sembah juga bermetamorfosis. Belalang sembah yang baru menetas dari telur bentuknya seperti udang kecil. Mereka menerobos bagian bawah ooteka dan menggantung terbalik pada benang tipis. Tubuhnya dilindungi selaput tipis. Setelah beberapa saat, selaput tipis ini terkoyak. Dari dalamnya muncullah anak-anak belalang sembah yang bentuknya sudah menyerupai belalang sembah dewasa. Metamorfosis belalang sembah termasuk memamorfosis tidak sempurna karena bentuknya saat masih kecil dan dewasa hampir sama. Bedakan dengan kupu-kupu yang awalnya berbentuk ulat kemudian menjadi kepompong.
Carnivore
Locusts are carnivorous. They eat other insects that are smaller in size. Adult cemetery worms eat so much every day that their body size is fast. They have to change their skin every time their body gets bigger. During his lifetime the locusts can change the skin as much as 5 to 10 times depending on the species.
Despite having 2 pairs of wings, the worship mantis are not good pilots. Usually only male flying mantis. The female devotees, whose size is larger, can not fly. His wings are used to frighten the enemy. When the wings are spread, the worship mantis will look bigger and fierce.
Belalang sembah adalah karnivora. Mereka memakan serangga lain yang lebih kecil ukurannya. Belalang sembah yang belum dewasa makan banyak sekali setiap harinya sehingga ukuran tubuhnya cepat besar. Mereka harus berganti kulit setiap kali tubuhnya bertambah besar. Selama hidupnya belalang sembah dapat berganti kulit sebanyak 5 sampai 10 kali tergantung jenisnya.
Walaupun memiliki 2 pasang sayap, belalang sembah bukan penerbang yang baik. Biasanya hanya belalang sembah jantan yang terbang. Belalang sembah betina, yang ukuran tubuhnya lebih besar, tidak dapat terbang. Sayapnya dipakai untuk menakut-nakuti musuh. Bila sayapnya dibentangkan, belalang sembah akan terlihat lebih besar dan lebih galak.
