The Journey Begins

I fucked up.

And not in the "you'll be OK in a few, mate" kind of way.

I fucked up massively and, for quite a while, I had no idea if things were going to be OK ever again.

There were times where I'd wake up in the middle of the night with a single thought screaming through my mind.

What the fuck have you done!?

I'd lie there, thinking of everything I once had, remembering the insanity that lead me here, and wondering if it was only going to get worse.

Of course it got worse.

As time went on, my desperation grew. I tried everything. All I wanted was to see some light at the end of the tunnel. But it never came.

Source

Fuck it. I'm done. I give up.

This was probably the smartest thought that had crossed my mind in at least a year. And the admission of failure helped lead to where I am now.

And while I'm no where near where I need to be, I can see the light. Things aren't quite so dark now. But I'm not yet out of the darkness. There's still a lot of work to do.

And I'll document my journey here on this blog.

You're no doubt wondering what I did that took me to such a dark place. Well, it's a long story, so I'll break it up into a few posts so make it more digestible.

The short story is that I bought a business that ultimately failed. But the longer story is what caused me to buy the business which is a story in itself. And then there's how this business and its subsequent failure impacted on every single aspect of my life. Here's a short list:

  • my wife very nearly left me
  • my mental and physical health was destroyed
  • my finances are in tatters
  • and I'm left feeling like an utter failure

But this blog isn't all about how my life ended up in ruins. It is in fact a blog that is designed to be positive and helpful to those who are in need of help and constructive advice. Through this blog I will document the steps that I have and am taking in order to recover from the utter failure that my life was less than 12 months ago.

And the title of the blog is the goal that I have set myself.

I plan to be debt free in 2 years or less. And more than that, I plan to have repaired all of the aspects of my life that suffered as a result of my business failure. The key aspects being my health (both physical and mental) and, more importantly, my relationship with my wife, who is the most patient and loving soul that I have ever known.

You are more than welcome to join me on this journey.

Hi and welcome here! When I started on steemit, my biggest problem was to find interesting people to interact with. So, to help newcomers getting started I created a directory with other interesting and or talented steemians to follow or interact with. Feel free to check it out at https://www.steemiandir.com I am sure it will help you find like-minded people. Enjoy your stay here and do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!

Hey man, we all fuck up from time to time, life is hard for sure... well, as hard as we make it.. if we wallow in failure, that's what we become. I feel like I am having a similar experience as you, failed business, finances in the trash bin, but like you, have turned to this platform as a way to document and turn things around; as well as exploring and developing different interests.

It's tough, but you have gotten to the point to be frustrated enough with being frustrated that you are finally doing something about it, and that's what matters.

Thanks for being so honest and open, good luck with your journey.. and welcome to @Steemit! 🙂

Hey thanks man. I appreciate you stopping by to comment. That’s insane that we’re in such similar situations. And we both ended up here. :)

It feels good to be working on fixing my mistakes. But the thing I struggle with the most these days is the insane amount of guilt that I feel. My fuck up impacted on so many people in a negative way. Most of all my wife. I honestly don’t know how to deal with that.

I've found in my experiences that most people are more willing to forgive and forget in real life than what we think in our heads.. If they truly care about and love us, they want to see us happy and thriving.. guilt can be a corrosive poison if you let it linger in your system for too long. Make it up to those people by getting back in the saddle and being the best you can be.. or at least being better than before (not all days will be perfect, right?)

Anyone not willing to forgive you after that is, unfortunately, not worth your time or effort.. I have found the steemit community to be helpful. Keep your chin up..

every passing moment is another chance to turn it all around.. -Vanilla Sky

It's getting well frustrating to sift through 20 odd copied and pasted welcome messages on each post with hashtag I introduceyourself!!

And just as I write this, I remember there's a mute button to mute users which will sort that out my end haha!

I'm happy that you surrendered to it all. It's all a loads shit and irrelevant anyway to real life.

Buy BTC. Hold it. Laugh.

Hi, welcome to SteemIt. Good luck on your Steem journey and I wish you the best. I've been here since 2016 but it was only last June when I fully committed to take Steem seriously. Please feel free to read my STEEMJOURNEY.

Here are also some tools that I use and I hope you can find them useful too:

  1. Use Partiko App from your mobile phone to post to your blog, comment, and upvote content in SteemIt to earn points which you can use to boost your own content.
  2. If you’re into games, you may wanna try playing Steem Monsters, a blockchain game based on Steem. It lets you compete with other players around the world with creature cards which you can sell and/or convert to crypto.
  3. Get rewarded for staying fit and healthy with ActiFit - a Steem-based app which rewards you with tokens (which you can eventually use to boost your content) for being physically active. If you're already using Fitbit or a similar app, then you'll find this easy to use.
  4. Invest your Steem Power at Smart Steem and get daily rewards and earn more Steem.
  5. Earn rewards by sharing links to interesting webpages through DLike and earn Dlike tokens
  6. Exchange votes with other users with
    SteemEngine.Net / https://steemengine.net/join?r=5604
  7. Steempeak and eSteem both offer an intuitive way of using Steem, enhancing your user experience.

If you need help, I am just a message away.

Cheers

Welcome to the Steemit community @debtfreein2!
We sincerely hope you find everything you are looking for and have found a new home here.

Seven suggestions to consider:

  1. Guard your passwords carefully, and only publish with the posting key,
  2. Use your active key only for wallet transactions, keychain and steemconnect,
  3. The master password is only used to reset compromised passwords,
  4. DO NOT lose your passwords; copy and store offline,
  5. Do not publish other people's work, be it photos or written, without credit,
  6. An introduceyourself tag is used only once, and
  7. When you open your steemit.com, in the upper right corner of the page there are 3 bars. Click on those, and then on the "welcome", and you will get a lot of reading material that will help you.

I found you because @xcountytravelers and @brittandjosie from @heyhaveyamet presented and promoted your publication to get more exposure and help you grow faster.

If you find yourself overwhelmed and need some guidance, or if you have any questions, there are informed Steemians available who can help you; you can click to go to the Steem Terminal in Discord here:
