Introducing Myself

in #introduceyourself8 years ago (edited)

Hello dear Steemians! So here is my second post... This time I hope I found the correct category!

My name is Keith Boone and I'm a photographer from Victoria, BC, Canada. I hope some of you will remember me from Tsu, Clickasnap and Facebook.

I love all kinds of photography but my main interests are nature, wildlife and landscape. Living here in Victoria, we have some of the nicest weather in Canada... mild winters, very little snow... but this is the Pacific Northwest so now and then a storm can blow in from the Pacific. Yesterday was exactly such a day, with strong winds and some great wave action.

In this photo, you can see the 1/2 mile long breakwater in Victoria. The breakwater takes a couple of twists and turns, eventually ending at the small lighthouse you can see in the photo. When my wife and I first moved to Victoria, the breakwater had no guardrails... imagine taking a half mile walk here with no railings on a stormy day like this!

I'm very happy to be here on Steemit, and I hope to connect with as many of my friends from other networks as possible. I know it will take a little while to learn my way around here, so please be patient as I try to learn the rules and etiquette here! Now I'm heading to the FAQ section...

Thank you so much!!! Incredible generosity, I am so grateful :)

You are most welcome @keithboone. 😀 Happy Steeming. 😀

What an awesome capture! I can't quite imagine what this would be like without any guardrails!

You captured an epic moment there!

Hi, Keith! Glad you are here! Everyone has missed you? Can't you see that? :)

Upvoted and Resteemed Tip!

Thank you, Denise! High wind warnings again today so there should be some more wave action. It's awesome to be connecting with old friends again! Steemit seems great, thanks for giving me a little push to join! :)

You are always a pleasure to blog around with. :)

"blog around" haha! You too Denise :)

Hi keithboone welcome to the steemit community it's really great to have you here.....enjoy

Thanks very much!

Welcome! :)

Thank you!

Really nice to see you and your amazing photography again Keith

Thanks a lot Woody! I've been using FB a bit, but not CAS and I haven't really found a "home". Still miss Tsu. How are you finding this place?

I spend most of my day here. Just concentrate on getting a following and posting the Crypto Currency and cashing out part you'll learn as you go. Your account value goes up and down like the stock Market, just hold tight and dont panic when it happens. You can click on anyones Wallet and see how this place is treating them lol

OK... so far I know less than zero. I started out at zero, but got more confused after a few hours! :)

We all go through that. Youll be a pro in no time. Tags are important here. On the left you will see a list, its generated by popularity, so use that to your advantage. First Tag is the most important. Photography should always be yours.

Great, I'll use Photography going forward. There seem to be tons of contests and theme days and so on... I will eventually get to that! I appreciate the help Woody!

No problem, your post is valid for upvotes (money earned) for seven days. after seven days your earnings show up in your wallet. Interact and have fun :)

Welcome to Steemit Keith :)
Listen to Woody... and remember that upvotes here are not like FB likes. Don't waste them.

Thank you... I don't know what that means yet, but I keep hearing it! I'm afraid to do anything in case I break something! :)

Limit yourself to around 10 upvotes a day

and how about resteems?

You will not break anything :) You will just loose some powers ;) The upvotes (likes) take away some of your Voting Power. It regenerates itself, but in the speed of about 10-11 votes a day. So that's it. If you vote like crazy you will spend it all and it will take days to get it back.

There is no limits for resteems.

Thanks, I've got that now. Appreciate your help!

Anytime :)
There is a lot t learn here!

Hello Keith, and welcome to Steemit from a fellow photographer. :)

Thanks so much for the welcome! Followed

The Number 1 rule is to enjoy yourself. Follow that rule so you wont have to run into Rule Number 2: Never quit!!

Seriously there is a lot to learn here, but that will come with time. Before long you will be helping the newbies. If you have any tree pics, feel free to post to the #treetuesday tag. You can also drop the link on my post for added visibility :)

Thank you, I just made a post for treetuesday :)

Welcome!

Hello, thank you for the welcome, good to see you here!

Welcome!
Nice to another person from BC on here. We are growing!

Thank you for the welcome Gavin! I followed you. Hope to see more of your work in the future!

Hi @keithboone! You have received 0.1 SBD tip + 0.02 SBD @tipU from @dswigle :)

Check out new tipuvote! feature :)

Welcome to Steemit! I look forward to seeing more of your photos.

Thanks very much! Followed :)

welcome Keith! great photo! if you'd like, you can link your photo to a full-size image with a little mark-up editting.

Thank you for the welcome! I'd be interested in learning the mark-up editing if you can share any tips... I was unsure what size image I should be posting, so all of my first posts have been downsized quite a bit. Thanks for commenting and the resteem! Followed... I look forward to seeing your work.

although i must add, that i've seem some peeps with a link to a larger image that overlays the current page and allows for a one-click closing of the image without closing the original page your were at.

The way i've shown here clicking the image link loads a new page with contains image. So in order to return to the original page you'd have to hit the Back arrow on your browser... FYI

Ah, did not know that. Does the image have to hosted somewhere else, or can it still be loaded directly into the post?

directly into the post

OK, I will try this for sure, it sounds very useful

Here is the resulting link to an almost full-screen image (of course the initial image itself has to be large):

DESKTOP.png

image is from standard iMac desktop

the trick is... when you drag an image into a post or comment, it will create a blockchain link that looks like this:
TEST1.png

In order to create a link to the full-size image, just copy the link itself (including the parenthesis) and paste it right after the first link like this:

TEST2.png

and finally, just put to a pair of brackets "[ ]" at the very beginning in front of the "!" and right in-between the duplicated link. So that second bracket goes between those two back-facing parenthesis.

like so:
TEST3.png

Thank you! Do you know what optimal image size in pixels should be when uploading?

well i've read that it should be as large as 2200 wide... not sure if there is a single optimal size.. i just kinda wingit and make em all a good size but not too big.

OK, the reason I was asking is that I can export all my files from Lightroom at the correct size, and then no coding.. although your solution looks slick! I'll find the info at some point. I was under the impression that it might be about 1000 px wide. Thanks for your suggestions, I might do a 2200 wide and see how that looks

I think I'm going to enjoy seeing you around once again, because I absolutely love your nature shots. What took you so long to follow us?!! 😉

Awww... so nice of you to say that! I think I was afraid to get started here because it seemed too complicated. I still think it's complicated, but it's starting to make more sense to me now :)

Indeed it takes time, I think I earned a few bald spots and much gray hair! Don't get discouraged, you have plenty of Tsu friend's to show the way.

Welcome to Steemit, Keith! Always good to see a fellow ex-tsuvian here!

Thanks very much! I have just followed you :)
