Introduce yourself: Un Trovador chamánico // A shamanic troubadour
Mi nombre es Alberto Cabezas y mi nombre artístico es “Trovador”, si como los de la Edad Media que andaban cantando, tocando música y poemas en cada esquina de los pueblos con su guitarra, pero contento de compartir con ustedes en pleno siglo XXI ;)
Les voy a compartir un resumen de quien soy yo, de donde vengo y que es lo que soy hoy en día.
Nací en Caracas el 30 de Abril del 88, soy Tauro con escorpio y una mezcla de pasión, arte, dibujo y más recientemente de música, canto y letra!. Amo expresarme desde que soy niño y es muy interesante porque no es precisamente que comencé con el arte de las musas (música), sino con lápiz y papel.
My name is Alberto Cabezas and my stage name is "Trovador", if like those of the Middle Ages who were singing, playing music and poems in every corner of the towns with their guitar, but happy to share with you in the XXI century. I am going to share a summary of who I am, where I come from and what I am today. I was born in Caracas on April 30, 88, I am a Taurus with a scorpio and a mixture ofpassion, art, drawing and more recently music, song and lyrics! I love expressing myself since I was a child and it is very interesting because it is not specifically that I started with the art of the muses, but with pencil and paper.
A los 6 años hice mi primer dibujo y era las caricaturas de los Pica Piedras; para mí algo super natural, pero la cara de mis padres no lo era Xd. Seguí por primaria y secundaria dibujando muchísimo, de hecho siempre hacia las carteleras, hice cursos de dibujo y hasta me compraron un Photoshop en el 2001, si el 2001!.
Me acuerdo dibujar de series animadas de moda en esa época como Dragon Ball o Caballeros del Zodíaco, que aunque tenían años ya rodando eran todavía muy usuales en la televisión de aquella época. Al final me gradué y quería estudiar artes plásticas, pero un amigo mío me aconsejó estudiar Diseño Gráfico ya que es una carrera con más facilidad para la era digital y de la publicidad, así que me arriesgué y estudié varios años por allá en el 2007.
Años después continué, me gradué, trabajé en varias empresas, pero de algún modo mi vena artística estaba así como agotada y opacada, había perdido algo de brillo, todo era solo por dinero y muy mecánico, incluso la parte monetaria no estaba tan bien como para no importarme, así que decidí empezar a tatuar y dibujar una vez más.
Sin embargo, hacerse con la carrera de tatuador no es fácil, requiere muchas horas, y al final tuve que terminar en trabajos pagados de oficina, pero las cosas de la vida me llevaron a algo que cambió mi vida: La Ayahuasca.
At the age of 6 I made my first drawing and it was the caricatures of the Pica Piedras; for me something super natural, but the face of my parents was not Xd. I continued through primary and secondary school drawing a lot, in fact always towards the billboards, I took drawing courses and they even bought me a Photoshop in 2001, yes 2001 !.
I remember drawing from animated series in fashion at that time like Dragon Ball or Knights of the Zodiac, which although they had been filming for years were still very common on television at that time. At the end I graduated and wanted to study plastic arts, but a friend of mine advised me to study Graphic Design since it is a career more easily for the digital and advertising era, so I took a risk and studied several years there in 2007.
Years later I continued, I graduated, I worked in several companies, but somehow my artistic streak was as well exhausted and dull, I had lost some shine, it was all just for money and very mechanical, even the monetary part was not as good as not to mind, so I decided to start tattooing and drawing once more.
However, getting a tattoo career is not easy, it requires many hours, and in the end I had to end up in paid office jobs, but the things in life led me to something that changed my life: La Ayahuasca.
La Medicina
Le llaman medicina indígena a un conjunto de rituales, ceremonias y estilo de vida que consiste en utilizar espiritualmente plantas medicinales del amazonas venezolano, colombiano y de otros países americanos, llevado por taitas, chamanes o mayores que tienen muchos años de experiencia y práctica, llevando sanación, curación física y mental a miles de personas al año. Mi primer contacto con estas plantas “enteógenas” fue la Ayahuasca de la mano del dador de medicina “Daniel Pérez”, que es una planta cocinada con Banisteriopsis Caapi y Chakruna (Psychotria viridis), las cuales te permiten viajes muy interesantes a otros planos de conciencia donde la planta, rezada y cocinada por meses te permite elevar la conciencia, tus potenciales como ser humano y eliminar las toxinas físicas y mentales.
The Medicine
Indigenous medicine is called a set of rituals, ceremonies and lifestyle that consists of spiritually using medicinal plants from the Venezuelan, Colombian, and other American Amazon, led by Taitas, shamans or elders who have many years of experience and practice, carrying healing, physical and mental healing to thousands of people a year. My first contact with these "entheogenic" plants was Ayahuasca from the hand of the medicine giver "Daniel Pérez", which is a plant cooked with Banisteriopsis Caapi and Chakruna (Psychotria viridis), which allow you very interesting trips to other planes of awareness where the plant, prayed and cooked for months allows you to raise awareness, your potential as a human being and eliminate physical and mental toxins.
Música Medicina
Seguí participando de estas ceremonias durante año y medio y fue con el dador Andrés Córdoba, que logré una epifanía. La visión y el mensaje era que veía a otros músicos tocar en las ceremonias, los llamados músicos medicina, y que yo debía formar parte de eso.
Los músicos medicina son artistas que tocan un género especialmente dedicado a llevar espiritualmente a las personas en rituales chamánicos a experiencias armónicas, equilibradas, agradables y certeras.
Las plantas chamánicas y como se cocinan están hechas para purgar (física y espiritualmente) todo mal, ansiedades, depresiones y cualquier elemento tóxico que viene de ti y tus antepasados, y no solo eso, sino que la experiencia es como una borrachera; te mareas, a veces no puedes caminar, tienes visiones muy intensas, momentos de mucho gozo, o incluso se pueden presentar escenas de miedo o enfrentamiento con tus lados oscuros, momentos donde la medicina “pega” y se te hace difícil llevar los procesos, y es ahí donde el trabajo del músico tiene valor y uso, debido a su función para estabilizar las frecuencias y vibraciones que se transmiten en un evento donde la sensibilidad es llevada a niveles mucho mayores a los normales.
Ahí volví a nacer literalmente, se me abrió la puerta de ser músico medicina y agarré una guitarra que tenía olvidada en el armario que mi madre me había regalado hace muchos años atrás…
Siguieron pasando los años y pase de todo, por aprender a tocar cada acorde, a cantar, a rasguear, a entender términos musicales, sacarme canciones, todo desde cero. Pero al tiempo pasé por una experiencia muy fuerte con la medicina y desde ese entonces me di cuenta que no estaba totalmente preparado para entender ese lenguaje y servicio.
“No es para todo el mundo” pensaba, “¿Será que tengo que dejar de tomar estas medicinas indígenas?”.
Medicine Music
I continued participating in these ceremonies for a year and a half and it was with the giver Andrés Córdoba that I achieved an epiphany. The vision and the message was that I saw other musicians perform at ceremonies, the so-called medicine musicians, and that I should be part of that.
Medicine musicians are artists who play a genre specially dedicated to spiritually leading people in shamanic rituals to harmonious, balanced, pleasant and accurate experiences.
Shamanic plants and how they are cooked are made to purge (physically and spiritually) all evil, anxieties, depressions and any toxic element that comes from you and your ancestors, and not only that, but the experience is like a binge; you get dizzy, sometimes you cannot walk, you have very intense visions, moments of great joy, or there may even be scenes of fear or confrontation with your dark sides, moments where medicine "hits" and it is difficult for you to carry the processes, and it is there where the musician's work has value and use, due to its function to stabilize the frequencies and vibrations that are transmitted in an event where the sensitivity is brought to much higher levels than normal.
There I was literally born again, the door to being a medical musician opened for me and I grabbed a guitar that I had forgotten in the closet that my mother had given me many years ago…
The years went by and everything happened, to learn to play each chord, to sing, to strum, to understand musical terms, to take songs from me, all from scratch. But at the time I went through a very strong experience with medicine and since then I realized that I was not fully prepared to understand that language and service."It is not for everyone" I thought, "Do I have to stop taking these indigenous medicines?"
Entré en una situación de inestabilidad que ya sumada a esa experiencia que tuve una vez tomando una Ayahausca de dudosa procedencia me detuve a analizar. Cada vez que intentaba tocar como músico medicina ya habiéndome entrenado y sabiéndome varias canciones no duraba más de dos temas y me mareaba, me “chumaba” mucho como dicen por ahí que es lo mismo; y así seguí meses de meses intentando buscar el lugar y el momento para que todo ese esfuerzo que tanto me ha llevaba, tantas horas de ensayo, canto y toque de la guitarra pudiera ser usado para sanar y curar personas.
I entered a situation of instability that, added to that experience I had once taking an Ayahausca of dubious origin, I stopped to analyze. Every time I tried to play as a medicine musician, having already trained and knowing several songs, it didn't last more than two songs and it made me dizzy, I “sucked” a lot, as they say over there, it's the same; And so I continued months of months trying to find the place and the moment so that all that effort that took me so long, so many hours of rehearsal, singing and playing the guitar could be used to heal and heal people.
Ahí es cuando entra la Ñuá
Nace “Trovador”
En Mayo de 2019 un amigo mío que se llama Carlos Queipo me comenta para ir a conocer la churuata del chamán Rufino, de la etnia Piaroa en el Amazonas venezolano. El da otra medicina que se llama Ñuá o más coloquialmente llamada Yopo.
Yo venía dudando de si podía ir, o si iba pero solo unos días y no toda la semana como me había dicho, ya que para esa zona tan remota del territorio venezolano solo hay un avión que viaja por semana los días Jueves, sin embargo al final terminé aceptando lo que era destino.
Conocí a esta hermosa aldea de la etnia Piaroa, me quedé durmiendo en la mismísima churuata del chamán junto a otros criollos o “savarari” como ellos le dicen, en hamacas, suelo de tierra, bañándome siempre en el río de al lado. Una experiencia mágica e inolvidable ya que yo había probado la ñuá anteriormente, pero esta vez fue distinto.
Pasó una semana de viajes a montañas y ríos, de “yopear” un día sí y otro no, de aliviar y purgar muy fuerte, escuchar sonidos y rugidos de animales imposibles de identificar para mi oído humano en la noche de la selva, paseos a Puerto Ayacucho para probar bebidas y comidas exóticas y de compartir de esas sonrisas hermosas de los niños.
Al volver a Caracas me sentí totalmente distinto, como si me hubiesen pasado por una máquina de lavado de vehículos completamente. Me sentía con muchísima energía, equilibrado, tranquilo y con una sensación de que algo más pasó en esos días.
That's when the Ñuá comes in
"Trovador" is born
In May 2019 a friend of mine named Carlos Queipo told me to go meet the shaman Rufino's churuata, from the Piaroa ethnic group in the Venezuelan Amazon. He gives another medicine called Ñuá or more colloquially called Yopo.
I had been doubting if I could go, or if I was going but only for a few days and not all week as he had told me, since for that remote area of Venezuelan territory there is only one plane that travels per week on Thursdays, however at In the end I ended up accepting what was destiny.
I met this beautiful village of the Piaroa ethnic group, I stayed asleep in the shaman's very own churuata along with other creoles or "savarari" as they tell him, in hammocks, dirt floor, always bathing in the river next door. A magical and unforgettable experience since I had tried the ñuá previously, but this time it was different.
A week of traveling to mountains and rivers passed, from “yoping” one day yes and another no, from relieving and purging very loudly, listening to sounds and roars of animals impossible to identify for my human ear in the jungle night, walks to Puerto Ayacucho to try exotic drinks and food and to share those beautiful smiles of children.
When I returned to Caracas I felt totally different, as if I had been passed through a vehicle washing machine completely. I felt very energetic, balanced, calm and with a feeling that something else happened in those days.
Desde ese momento se me abren más puertas y me llama un amigo que me dice para ir a una ceremonia de un taita muy reconocido que se llama Uauakallarij Jacanamijoy, chamán del Putumayo colombiano y dador de Yagé, Ayahuasca colombiana. Acepto muy emocionado porque a pesar de que no íbamos como músicos era una oportunidad de oro para establecer contactos con él y ver si me daba a conocer.
Llegamos a un pueblo cerca de Valencia, una posada con piscina muy bonita que nos acogió ya que mi amigo es chef y la idea era ayudar a cambio de recibir toda esa experiencia. Lo que cambió aquí fue que cuando llegó el taita por la noche casualmente no tenías músicos, y empezó a preguntar “¿y los músicos dónde están?”, con ese gesto y forma divertida de hablar de él.
En ese momento yo tenía la oportunidad en bandeja de plata como dicen en mi país, y logré acercarme y decirle que yo y mi amigo, que por cierto toca muy bien el cuatro llanero, éramos los que lo íbamos a ayudar. Me dice que le presente temas y quedo fascinado, “contratado!!!” me dice.
Pasamos dos noches tomando medicina yagé y sirviendo como músicos como nunca había hecho antes y me di cuenta que aquel viaja a Amazonas había logrado lo que me faltaba, limpiarme y elevarme para estar preparado para ser músico medicina.
Pero esto no es todo…
Después de esa experiencia y haber quedado con el chamán de seguir siendo músico medicina de el en Venezuela, me volví a encontrar con una amiga llamada “Madhu”, que en el viaje a amazonas me había llamado “Trovador”. Se preguntarán porque, pero es muy particular el hecho de que esta amiga mía sufrió de Meningitis de joven y casi muere, pero al curarse quedó con ciertos problemas de memoria, y debido a que olvidaba los nombres fácilmente le ponía sobrenombres a todo el mundo, justo para acordarse de quien es quien. Pues ahí nació Trovador.
Pasamos de solo hablar unas palabras en amazonas a ensayar juntos en su casa por un proyecto de un álbum de música medicina y música Kirtan (cantos devocionales Krishnas). El proyecto iba a ser nominado como categoría World Music en los eventos Grammy en Estados Unidos, país donde vivió más de la mitad de su vida y donde conocía gente del medio.
A los días se sumó otro amigo mío llamado José Cabrera @josecabrerav a quien hago mención especial ya que es quien me hizo conocer esta plataforma, y a los días volvimos a tomar Ñuá en Caracas de la mano de Fregilbert Milano, que es el principal embajador de esta sagrada medicina y de Rufino en Venezuela.
From that moment more doors open for me and a friend calls me to go to a ceremony for a well-known Taita named Uauakallarij Jacanamijoy, shaman of the Colombian Putumayo and giver of Yagé, Colombian Ayahuasca. I accept very excited because even though we were not going as musicians it was a golden opportunity to establish contacts with him and see if he would make me known.
We arrived in a town near Valencia, a very nice inn with a pool that welcomed us since my friend is a chef and the idea was to help in exchange for receiving all that experience. What changed here was that when the taita arrived at night, you happened to have no musicians, and he began to ask "where are the musicians?", With that gesture and fun way of talking about him.
At that time I had the opportunity on a silver platter as they say in my country, and I managed to approach him and tell him that me and my friend, who by the way plays the four llanero very well, were the ones who were going to help him. He tells me to present topics to him and I am fascinated, "hired !!!" tells me.
We spent two nights taking yagé medicine and serving as musicians as I had never done before, and I realized that the one who traveled to Amazonas had accomplished what I needed, cleaning and getting up to be prepared to be a medicine musician.
But this is not all…
After that experience and having stayed with the shaman to continue being his medicine musician in Venezuela, I met a friend called "Madhu" again, who on the trip to Amazons had called me "Trovador". You may wonder why, but it is very particular the fact that this friend of mine suffered from Meningitis as a young woman and almost died, but when she was cured she was left with certain memory problems, and because she forgot the names she easily gave nicknames to everyone, just to remember who's who. Well, there Trovador was born.
We went from just speaking a few words in Amazons to rehearsing together at home for a project of an album of medicine music and Kirtan music (Krishnas devotional songs). The project was going to be nominated as a World Music category at Grammy events in the United States, a country where he lived more than half of his life and where he knew people from the media.
A few days later another friend of mine named José Cabrera joined me, to whom I make special mention since he was the one who made me know this platform, and days later we took Ñuá in Caracas from the hand of Fregilbert Milano, who is the main ambassador of this sacred medicine and Rufino in Venezuela.
En ese momento logré hablar Con Fregilbert y logré conseguir ser músico medicina de la Ñuá en conjunto con José Cabrera, Carlos Queipo y Espartaco Valdez, hermano con el que además he trabajado casualmente con el taita Uauakallarij llevando a cabo ceremonias de yagé.
Así que esta es mi historia, la de “Trovador”, cantando y tocando para elevar el corazón, la frecuencia y las almas, compartiendo buena vibra.
