The problem is, there's nothing in the UI to encourage people to engage in idle chitchat like for example Twitter. I'm happy to reply to your comment thread like on this post but I don't feel comfortable creating a post for example and saying "Hey @steevc how's the piles?" To give you another example, I would love to message @stav and say "Where have you been for the last few days?" but again the only way to do that on Hive is to create a post and hope Stav looks at "Mentions" which again is pretty naff as that should be a "Notification"

This is what I mean when I say "Stop telling people to create a separate community on Discord and improve the UI on @PeakD or @Hive.blog so people can send a simple message to each other or the community at large."

Well you can comment on someone's last post, but I see what you mean. It ought to be possible to create a sort of non-private messaging facility. We have private messages via transfer memos, but that is not much used. It's a matter of someone building it into the front ends. I've not looked at the new Dapplr mobile app that seems to encourage micro-blogs.

I'm not saying Hive can be everything to all people, but it's an option that most people could make some use of. You don't have to write posts if there is content you like to just follow and comment/vote on. From what I know it offers more than Wordpress and plenty of people use that. It will never be Facebook or Twitter, unless it gets some radical changes, but does it have to do all those do? I don't see people writing long blogs on Facebook.

Honestly, it's trivial. And would, I think, kill the current Twitter take up trend too. The only reason you're seeing an upsurge in Hive users spending time on Twitter is because like me they dislike Discord and it's a way of interacting with fellow users without any set topic. For example I can go on Twitter and say "Morning @nathanmars how you doing" and a few others can jump in and before you know it we have a quorum. Whereas currently with Hive you have to wait for someone to check your account and see if you posted anything.

Actually there is a Hive-based BBS/chat thing at Open Hive. Sign in with Hivesigner. Just needs people to be using it.

See, there it is again: "Head over to xyz, sign in......" I don't want sign in to multiple accounts I want the Xbox (Ubuntu Unity) idea "Everything in one place" 😁

Well we sort of have that with Keychain and Hivesigner at least uses the same credentials. So it's all on one account. I think Keychain is just a great concept as you can manage multiple accounts with it and switch between dapps easily. On mobile it's a different matter and needs improvements. I think there is a mobile Hive wallet, but I've not used it.

I'm in the OpenHive.Chat now
