RE: A nice Saturday - but things are hard

in #journal6 months ago (edited)

The sad reality is that the UK is in long-term irreversible decline.

Great Britain only became great because of the massive wealth that the British Navy's domination of global trade brought for almost 200 years.

That period is long gone and the UK has been running on the fumes of Empire ever since.

The reality is that the British Isles were an irrelevant backwater, far from the centres of civilisation, for most of human history and are returning to their natural state.

I would suggest you look at the US if you want to work hard and make lots of money or Cyprus if you want good weather, a slow pace and an English feel. Thailand is also an option but a much bigger cultural shift and you'll never become a native.

Bro this is a cold slap of reality 😅

I'm sad to say I pretty much agree with most of it, especially the "running on fumes" bit.
I don't think I can survive in the US though. I'm a little too much on the left, even though I'm relatively centre-right here, to truly make it in America :) The US is cut-throat rugged individualism. My brother has lived there for most of his life and he is like that.

I've never been to Cyprus, but I've been to Rhodes and some nearby islands in that area and YES the weather is PERFECT!!

You should definitely check out Cyprus. I'm here now and it is lovely. You can get all your British foods and most people speak good English. It is a fusion of British and Greek with some Russians and Africans thrown in.
