YingStyle Noob Keto Cooking Menu 02 - Cold Brewed Coffee

in #keto6 years ago (edited)

Hi! Guys just a small post on me creating a Do it your self Cold Brew Coffee. As coffee itself is pretty safe in a Ketogenic diet, this will be can be quite useful when water gets boring or you need a caffeine fix.

A few days ago a few of my office mates of mine were discussing that they like drinking coffee but sometimes that their stomach hurts when they drink too much or when they drink it without any food. Well as a person that likes to give unsolicited advice (Yeah! that's why people don't like me) I said that it would be better if they try cold bred coffee instead.

Then they told me that they never heard of that before and weather its just drinking coffee in cold water. So asked google what cold brew coffee is and is just coffee steeped in room or cold water for extended amount of time. As the low brewing temperature reduces the overall acidity levels of the final product.

Also there is this chemical called Chlorogenic acid (Science!!!) that is found in coffee is considered as a very powerful antioxidant however it is extremely sensitive to heat. So not only does this brewing technique make your coffee less acidic but umm... it also preserves the Chlorogenic acid (Yeah very contradictory in the word level hahah!!) which is a great anti oxidant. So anyway please check the steps below in creating your very own DIY Cold Brew Coffee.

Ingredients

1) 125 grams of your selected coffee beans.

2) 4 cups of water

Instructions

1) Coarsely ground you coffee beans or buy them pre-ground if you like. As the supermarket near us does not have pre-ground beans so I used a mortar and a pestle. (You guys really need to help me be more successful on stemmit so I can buy a food processor or a coffee grinder, grinding the D@mn beans manually sucks!!!)

2) Add the grounded coffee and four cups of water in sealed container and give it a good mix.

3) Let it steep for a minimum of 20 hours. (Yeah this is the main reason we have hot brewed coffee)

4) OK! after all that waiting its time tot filter the mixture using just a wire strainer to remove the largest particles. According to some post in the net you should try not to press the coffee been shells as not include the bitter extracts to the final product.

5) Filter the coffee again using a coffee filter to remove the remaining particulates.

6) Your done you now have a cold brew concentrate that you can drink hot or cold or be used as ingredient in your favorite recipe. This coffee concentrate can last about 2 weeks so feel free to make a bigger batch as needed.
