엘리베이터 속도의 한계
초고층 빌딩에 들어가는 엘리베이터는 속도도 빠르다. 보통 20층 아파트에 사용하는 엘리베이터는 분속 100미터, 초속 1.7미터 정도다. 100미터/분 속도로 500미터를 올라가기 위해서는 5분이 거릴고, 1킬로미터를 올라가는데는 10분이 걸린다.
광저우 CTF 금융센터에는 세계에서 가장 빠른 엘리베이터가 있다. 이 엘리베이터는 시속 72킬로미터로 1분에 1200미터를 올라간다. 다른 고층빌딩 엘리베이터 보다도 2배나 빠른 속도다. 앞서 살펴본 1킬로미터 건물 제다 타워에 사용되는 엘리베이터 역시 초당 10미터이며, 분속 600미터, 시속 36킬로미터이다.
제다 타워에 광정우 CTF 금융센터 엘리베이터 보다 빠른 엘리베이터를 사용하지 않은 것은 엘리베이터의 기술적인 한계 때문이 아니라 승객의 귀를 보호하기 위해서다.

인간은 빠르게 올라가거나 내려가면 기압 변화를 견디기 힘들다. 인간의 신체적인 제약 때문에 승객을 보호하고자 초속 10미터 엘리베이터를 사용하는 것이다.
이와 같은 이유로 광저우 CTF 금융센터의 엘리베이터 역시 내려갈 때는 정격 속도의 2/3까지만 속도를 낸다.
