Wednesday In Mom's Yard.....

I went to my Mom's yesterday. She is 86 and in decent health.... well.... except for the stress of chasing her 85 year old husband Tommy around, who is down the rabbit hole of dementia now.

They married when she was around 70, after my Dad and Tommy's wife passed away. They've had a great life together, traveling all over the country and the such.

She has always had such a green thumb, that even though she has barely had a free moment all summer, the flowers abound in her yard. I don't have photos of the half of them... but...

You may have seen my post of all the happy art in my yard (or not)... but along the way I have also been buying it for my Mom too. It all seems to look so wonderful poking up at of her flowers. She likes purple, so Christmas before last, I gave her this purple phoenix.

A vivid orange hibiscus from her porch.

These funky zinnias are taller than me ! I'm 5.5 foot tall.

Another piece of art, a humming bird drinking out of a yellow flower. Sweet right ? yeah.... I gave her that too. I might look at something sometime and think it is too expensive for me to buy for myself, but when it's for my Mom, the price seems to disappear from existence.

She deserves everything good in the world.

What ?? I asked that too ! She said the stool was guarding a baby gardenia she is rooting for one of Tommy's sisters. He use to be the GREATEST thing in the yard in every way, but now if he gets a hoe in his hands, there is no distinguishing between what are weeds that need to go and the prized plants. OMG ! Dennis the Menace !

The end of one flower bed has a Spinner Garden.

Pretty place ! No telling how many more flowers would be there if she had a moment left to work in them.

It was a fun visit. I took in a bunch of stuff from Wendy's, two big salads, 4 baked potatoes, 2 plain, one with cheese, one with cheese AND chili.... and some Wendy's chili. She found one time they like to dip the chili with Tostitoes like a dip. I ate a half of a potato with the works and left the rest there for them to much on over the next few days. She's a fabulous cook, but it's not as fun when you can't get in the kitchen and just do it, so she hasn't done as much of it lately... and I don't blame her. I try to take in a pile of food whenever I go.

I love doing that.

Hope all is well where you are.

Luv ya !

All seems to be well with your Mom and Tommy!
It is great to know where you got your love for spinners and all... or is it vice versa?
Do they live close by?

I admit, I gave her those, but she has to love them since I gave them to her... right ?? LOL They fit right in with her flower gardens. IN the spring, there are peonies all underneath them.

They don't live TOO far away, but it is the other side of the county and it still takes about 20-23 minutes to get there.

Oh ! Thank you ! 💐

Beautiful :) 😀

Thanks !.... and I think so too ! I love going there and spending time in her yard.

Thanks....

Very pleasant place to spend time.

That gif is mesmerizing!

I thought so too.

My phone program sometimes makes me things out of photos I take, like enhancing them or making a movie out of them or these animations. If I like what it does I can save it and if not delete it. This is one it made for me, so I didn't have to do it myself.

Did you notice that a yellow thing appears over the spinner and then disappears again? That was a bright yellow butterfly that was caught in one of the shots that I took.

Lovely post and story, yard art rocks and so does gardening and am glad your mom found happiness and could travel. :)

I was so happy that Mom was able to travel all over the country and see first hand, things she had only seen in books and on the TV. She enjoyed it SO much and now has so many great memories to look back on.

Thanks for stopping by my post.

I recognize many of the things you have given her, like that gorgeous hibiscus! It is so unfair that at this point in her life she is spending her time taking care of someone. He is lucky he has her.

It really is unfair. She should be enjoying her life. She's a trouper and does not complain, but you can see it's taking it's toll. Although it's inspiring to see her trying to stick it out, it's a shame that his dementia may be the death of both of them.

I totally admire her loyalty. Do you think he would have done the same for her if the tables were turned?

Yes.... I do. His first wife had cancer and he retired early from law enforcement in order to be on his own schedule so he could do whatever needed to be done. He was quite the handy man and could do anything when it came to remodeling houses and the such. They got through it and she went into remission for 10 years before it came back. He stuck by her to the very long drawn out end. I have no doubt should the roles have been reversed, he'd be right there for my Mom as well.

He sounds like a wonderful man and so lucky to have your mom!

I have been missing seeing a new post from you and was just going to send you a note via LOH when It popped up that you had left the server. I hope everything is OK?

I didn't see this until now @jacey.boldart, so an upvote would be wasted.
I wish I HAD seen it sooner. Great flowers, I swear these yards could be right here in Mableton or Smyrna Ga.
You are very sweet and supportive of your mom. Dealing with someone with dementia is a full time job. I hope she has help.

That's ok..... and I haven't posted in a while.

She sure does keep a colorful yard in summer. I was surprised she got this much this summer, because of her time restrictions.

My Mom could have more help, but she is torn about having others come into her house with this covid mess. It has about become more than she can handle now, so I'm sure some changes will have to be made before too long.
