Mandarin is one tough language! I have only tried to learn a little little bit and while it wasn't too bad because I had a friend helping me I quickly realized it was a massive undertaking. I wish all who are attempting it good luck!
It is kind of scary for Westerners, haha. I am sure though that you can learn to speak Mandarin faster than you can learn to speak Polish, Hungarian or Finnish. Lots of myths around learning Mandarin, IMHO. :)
I've taken a course once. Even that my Chinese sucks LOLOL Way harder than Thai. Though, I agree that you don't need to go to China or take courses. Learning by yourself and really focus on it. Youtube definitely helps! ....... Are you learning Chinese???

Yeah those languages seem crazy to learn too! I'll stick with my Spanish and my Japanese haha
haha... If you think Mandarin is tough, then Cantonese is tougher.
Instead of 4 tones, there are 9 tones.
There you go! I know that Thai language has a lot in common with Cantonese but 9 main tones sounds insane!
I heard about one with 12 tones but I cannot remember which. I thought maybe some Indian but I google and there's some mention of some Chinese dialect

You can't tell if Chinese is harder than Thai cause you're a Thai native speaker and you didn't have to learn it, you acquired it, haha! ;)
