This act is barbaric in all ramifications. I am strongly against this and I think everyone should make an active effort to flag these kind of posts so that they are reserved completely invisible. Our whales can come out really handy here since they have more influence in the system

Flagging won't remove them from the blockchain.
It might not completely remove them but it can hide them or continuously decrease the reputation of the culprit so that future posts by him are not visible. I've come across posts with "post have been hidden due to low reputation "
Flagging the posts will only hide them. Steemit.com can remove the content from the site entirely so no one can access it on Steemit.com. However, in each case, no matter what one does, the original data stays on the blockchain and is freely accessible to anyone. Therein lies the quandary.
I completely get your point and I subscribe to this too. If it's possible to remove it then I think that's the best option. Generate a petition and I will willingly sign
It's not possible to remove them. That's the point. They can't be removed. Can not.
Exactly. The only way to kind-of remove data from the blockchain is if ~15 (don't remember the exact number) of the top witnesses agree to do so. Technically, it's a fork then, and everyone's free to take the old chain and run with it. But at least the main Steem chain will no longer have the data.
PS: Good to see ya around!
Going to be an administrative hell hole if the witnesses have to continually address submissions on a case by case basis.
There are some times that I see the Steem application of blockchain being a really poor fit for social media. I really worry for the likes of dSound and dTube if they go mainstream.
There's not much debate really, blockchain is absolutely a poor fit for social media. That doesn't mean it can't craft a valuable niche for itself, despite its flaws.
Perhaps the best solution is a hybrid of the centralized and blockchain systems.
Can't witnesses agree in editing a certain block simultaneously? I know, it will never happen, but just hypothetically?
