Representative Jang said at a press conference held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 25th, "It is heavy to have four apartments as a politician for people who have real demand and live in them."
On the 25th, Moon Geum-joo, floor spokesman of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized Jang, saying, "The power of the people who created a paradise for real estate speculators, and now they are not even qualified to put people's livelihoods on their lips," adding, "The answer is clear when looking at the real estate property status of the family, including CEO Jang and his wife. Chairman Jang said, "I am living in a 30-pyeong apartment in Guro-dong. I inherited and own an old farm house where a 94-year-old mother lives in a rural village. Before I became a lawmaker, I only had two houses," and added, "After I became a lawmaker, I bought an apartment in my constituency and an officetel in front of the National Assembly for my parliamentary activities. After I became a lawmaker, I bought four houses like that."
CEO Jang also said, "When my father-in-law passed away a while ago, I inherited a Jinju apartment in South Gyeongsang Province, where my mother-in-law lives, as a stake among the heirs, and I have a one-fifth stake," adding, "My mother-in-law lives on the monthly rent of an apartment in Gyeonggi-do Province, which my father-in-law raised as a severance pay. The apartment is also owned by the heirs. My wife owns a one-tenth stake."
"I own six properties like this, but all of them are for actual use," CEO Jang said. "However, only one mother-in-law has one apartment that is not actually living in order to live through monthly rent." "The total price of the four apartments pointed out by the Democratic Party is about 660 million won. The total price of the apartment house is about 850 million won," he added. "All the real estate I own is for actual use or for special purposes."
"I will continue to serve as the chairman of the special committee on real estate, pointing out the wrong real estate policies of the Lee Jae-myung government and the Democratic Party of Korea and suggesting alternatives," Chairman Jang said. "What the Democratic Party should do now is not study my real estate details, raise suspicions without any grounds, detonate smoke bombs and run away, but think about what real estate policies the people really want."
