Human trafficking is a crime against humanity. Every year thousands of men, women and children fall into the hands of traffickers, in their own countries and abroad. Every country in the world is affected by trafficking, whether as a country of origin, transit or destination for victims.
Before I continue, what is human trafficking?
Human trafficking is an act of recruiting, transportation, transfer, habouring or receipt of persons, by means of threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, abduction, fraud, or deception.
It is the abuse of power or of a position to exploit the vulnerable or the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person under the control of another person, for the purpose of exploitation.
CONSEQUENCES OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING
There are several consequences of human trafficking and some of them are:
- HUMAN AND SOCIAL EFFECTS: This is the physical abuse of human being. Trafficked persons are always exploited and enslaved.
- Sexual abuse: Some of the ladies are always sexually abuse.
- Health risk in women and adolescents: Since women are the weaker sex, they may not be able to withstand the long duration and stress of human trafficking and through this medium, they end up falling sick.
- PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES: Some of the victims of this inhuman act often suffer some psychological distress
- STIGMATIZATION: Most victims of trafficking end up bringing bad name to their home countries.
- POPULATION REDUCTION: Some victims of trafficking do not return to their home countries and this may drastically reduce the population of their home countries.
- MODERN SLAVERY: Some may not be able to fulfil the agreements signed with their traffickers and they may end up serving them throughout their life time.
- ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS: Some end up being illegal immigrants who are denied of several priviledges like work permit, free movement, etc, in the country they travelled to.
In conclusion, 'SAY NO TO HUMAN TRAFFICKING', it is inhuman. Love your neighbour as yourself, don't take advantage of them.
