The Sunshine Coast Airport is getting another runway. This will make two! Perhaps not exceptionally big compared to big city airports but not bad given the regional location of the Sunshine Coast. It is situated approximately an hour and twenty minutes from the Brisbane airport along an extremely busy highway.
Just happened to be cycling down near the airport yesterday and this is what I saw:
From what I understand - sand is being pumped from further down the coast to lay as a base for the runway. It is to be completed by 2020.
Lollypop people are doing a grand job stopping cars and keeping everyone safe. They like a chat too with interested locals coming to have a look!
So it is a big yah for the locals living at the Sunshine Coast to extend the airport - more tourists, boosts to the economy and the convenience of catching planes here instead of Brisbane.

howdy there @angiemitchell hey if they get that other runway done and can increase the air traffic capacity that will be a blessing to not have to go to Brisbane for a plane.
the only thing that surprises me is building runways on sand, that doesn't sound very stable! I'm not questioning them it just doesn't sound right to me! God bless you guys down there!
