WHAT I LEARNED: GAME OF THRONES AS THE GAME OF LIFE

in #life8 years ago

Movie marathon or watching movie series was not my thing. I thought of it as just a waste of electric usage or phone’s battery and of course my time. Not until I was encouraged to watch the “Game of Thrones”.

I started to watch it just recently, probably around mid of September 2017. I may have been left behind since the movie series started for about six years ago already, but I believe it’s never too late for me to belong to the fans who are currently waiting for the season 8.

PS. I hope spoilers won’t mind to keep quiet because I haven’t finished watching season 6 and I still have season 7 to watch to be able to fully catch up.

Anyway, they say Game of Thrones is the most popular movie series since the dawn of time. It may be known also for its brutality and nudity, but for me there’s more to it! So whether you’re an avid fan of the movie series - like me, or even though you have never watched a single episode of it or worst, haven’t heard of it at once, you better read this to know about some of the life lessons you can learn from it.

So far, here are the important lessons I gained from watching Game of Thrones:

-YOU ARE WHO YOU ARE, IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK ABOUT YOU
Everyone is unique and deserve to be respected. We must never let anyone to underestimate us nor make us feel unimportant. Same goes as how Tyrion the dwarf, John the bastard, Bran the crippled and many more conquered their inferiorities. Despite of being mocked, cursed, and insulted still they managed to rise and be proud of who they are. Their characters teach us that we must overcome people’s judgments and any form of life’s challenges and bitterness.

-LIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE FULLEST. APPRECIATE IT WHILE YOU CAN.
One famous line in the Game of Thrones is “Valar Moghulis” which means all men must die. That implies that death comes for us no matter what our status in life is. There is no immunity to death. Focus on living instead of dying. Let’s make each and every moment of our lives count for we may never know what moment could be our last.

-WE ARE NOT PERFECT, WE ALL COMMIT MISTAKES
This lesson can be seen in many episodes of the movie but let me just give you a certain example. It is when Master Aemon of the knights’ watch said “If we beheaded every Ranger who lay with a girl, the Wall would be manned by headless men.” In this, he is pertaining to what Jon Snow did when he slept with a woman. Viewers know the rule in the movie that those who watch the Wall must not have relations with women so they won’t be distracted from their duties. Master Aemon implies that punishment is not the best way to anyone who commits mistake once. We must learn from our mistakes as so to learn to forgive those who commits mistakes.

-WE ARE ALL CONQUERORS IN OUR UNIQUE WAYS
One great example of this lesson is Daenerys of house Targaryen. She was just a meek girl controlled by her brother. Then despite of that, she became the queen, mother of dragons and was able to release the slaves from the masters. She stood up to end slavery in the cities she conquered. Like her character, we always have to be strong and be passionate. Only we, can make difference in our lives. We must stand up for ourselves!

-LEARN FROM EVERY PAIN
As what Arya Stark said “A bruise is a lesson, and each lesson makes us better.” Bruise may be physical, mental and emotional. It hurts us but instead of minding about the pain, mind about the lessons learned or needs to be learned in able to keep us alive. Let that pain mold us in making ourselves better and smarter.

These are the lessons worth to keep in mind. More lessons to come! I am very much excited to start watching Game of Thrones season 7. NO SPOILERS PLEASE. :)

My two favorites are Varys and Little Finger. I love it when they meet and go back and forth with their verbal witticisms and power play.
