Guam female kingfisher birds hatch at the Institute of Biological Conservation at the Front Royal on May 17th. Around the world there are only about 140 Guam kingfisher birds and all live in human care.

According to press statements from the institute, kingfisher birds are territorial, and difficult to breed. Because the pair of brightly colored birds did not show the behavior of caring for their eggs, the officers used a special incubation tool to incubate the egg, and then took care of the hatchlings.

All of the existing Guam kingfishers are descended from 29 birds, captured from the wild and treated by humans since the 1980s to create a breeding program to save him from extinction.
