A List of My Favorite Personal Finance Books

in #life6 years ago

Hey all,

I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend and having a great time watching the Winter Olympics! Speaking of weekends, I love being able to have some free time to just relax. Weekends to me means kicking back, catching up on news, being with friends and family, sometimes sleeping in, and reading about personal finance.

Over the past year, I've become very interested with personal finance and have been pushing myself to better understand the subject. I am currently studying finance and economics in my undergraduate program, but be that as it may, there are emotions and understandings of finance that aren't taught in school. These emotions come from experience and learning from others who have been in similar situations. While personal finance can be a scary topic, I know I have learned a great deal from reading books authored by people who have been successful in the past and have outlined their mentality and strategy within the bindings of their books. Reading is so important for personal growth and development, especially with a topic such as finance. This is why I want to share my 3 favorite personal finance books with you all.

All three of these books are meant for everyone - those who do not know the first thing about personal finance and those that are experts. If you have favorite personal finance / wealth management books yourself, feel free to share it in the comments below!

Rich Dad Poor Dad - Robert Kiyosaki

Robert Kiyosaki has challenged and changed the way tens of millions of people around the world think about money. With perspectives that often contradict conventional wisdom, Robert has earned a reputation for straight talk, irreverence, and courage. He is regarded worldwide as a passionate advocate for financial education.

“The main reason people struggle financially is because they have spent years in school but learned nothing about money. The result is that people learn to work for money… but never learn to have money work for them.” – Robert Kiyosaki

The Intelligent Investor - Benjamin Graham

The greatest investment advisor of the twentieth century, Benjamin Graham, taught and inspired people worldwide. Graham's philosophy of "value investing" -- which shields investors from substantial error and teaches them to develop long-term strategies -- has made The Intelligent Investor the stock market bible ever since its original publication in 1949.

Think and Grow Rich - Napoleon Hill

First published during the Great Depression in 1937, “Think and Grow Rich” is Napoleon Hill’s classic self-help work on achieving economic success. The work was inspired by famed industrialist Andrew Carnegie’s suggestion that he compile a list of principles of achievement common to highly successful people. What followed would be two decades of research of the United States’ leading businessmen. Hill interviewed over five-hundred people, including Thomas Edison, John Rockefeller, and Charles M. Schwab, compiling their experiences into a sort of handbook for success. “Think and Grow Rich” is more than a mere get-rich-quick book, but rather a work that recognizes a philosophy of achievement common to many of the most successful people of all-time.
